It's not junk depending on what you need. For us Turbotax deluxe* is very easy to use with our particular Schedule C business and easily imports our brokerage account information. I tried H&R block one year and I could not get it to properly calculate our business tax credits even after opening a support ticket.
Also - an FYI for those that used TaxAct, H&R Block or TaxSlayer online services in previous years: There is a good chance they secretly sent data about you to Meta\Facebook: https://arstechnica.com/tech-poli...with-meta/
*In previous years there were some abilities you'd get with the physical disk that weren't included in the download copy. I haven't looked this year to see if that is still the case or not
Cause Intuit, maker of TurboTax, and other tax prep software companies have paid off Congress to make sure they don't allow this to happen. It's been contemplated for years and years.
if the IRS knows how much I owe, why not just send me a bill?

Freetaxusa interface is excellent. I have used it for several years and pay the extra $8 or so for the upgraded product just because I feel like I should be paying them something.
I'll follow some others and will also hold
off until Dec 25 or Dec 26. That has always been the best deal. I think I bought Premiere for $30 last year because of a glitch during the first few hours of the deal.

Stop paying for this junk.
I thought the same until I tried to file via the free option and compared to the result from the paid TurboTax. The free file was just miserable, no hand holding. The sections that TurboTax would skip by asking a simple question, in free file you have to decipher it yourself. But also, my refund amount was dramatically different. Free file has me owing the feds 1k (which is why I wanted a "second opinion") while in TurboTax, the feds owed me money. TurboTax managed to find a significant deduction/credit that you wouldn't even know about in free file, which kind of feels like bullshit, like how am I supposed to know that.
In a way, it's kind of like representing yourself in court vs having a lawyer. You can definitely become competent in either if given enough time to study but you to ask yourself how much your time is worth, as you only have a finite amount.
Will Deluxe allow a user to log into their brokerage account and download/import the 1099 info, like Premier can do? I have seen wildly different answers in the past.
I used deluxe the last couple of years and imported from robinhood, Fidelity, and Vanguard
