Dude poor Fram cannot shake its image I guess. This Fram ULTRA is universally seen as one of the best filters out there at any price. Seriously. Check bobistheoilguy.com. The cheapest Fram orange ones were dissed years ago and uninformed people just remember "Fram equal Bad" and so it continues

Yes and you should understand that the OEM blue Honda filters have been shown to be much more "basic" than these Fram Ultras. They are more in line with the cheapest filters that have cardboard endcaps etc. People often assume OEM = BEST and in this case, not true.

Hey I have bought these for years from Amazon. The Chinese are not doing counterfeit Fram oil filters for 7 dollars. This is not Airpods and Rolexes it is an oil filter

The posted filter just happens to fit my wife's Civic. The XG6607 fits my truck and just happens to be the same price. I always use Pure One (blue) filters for our vehicles but the reviews for these filters are pretty good. For the cost of one PureOne, I can get two of these.

Thanks ...

My Hondas have maintenance minders. They ask for oil changes between 8k - 9k. Every other oil change calls for a new filter. So a 20k mile filter is perfect for this.

Plenty of people will frown on following this schedule but I've put multiple Hondas past 300k with PP or M1 and these filters. I'm not sure how changing oil or filters more often would really bring any additional benefit for the extra time and cost.
You're correct, it doesn't especially with modern engines with modern manufacturing tolerances combined with modern higher quality synthetic oils. But like lots of things in life, the old wives tales and old rules of thumb can't be shaken by people. So they waste money and time and the Earth's natural resources for completely unnecessary extra oil changes just because it makes them feel better. These engines will all run hundreds of thousands of miles anyway. And I would guess most people don't even own their cars that long before they trade for something else

The video I linked is about a 2015 Toyota that is having to have it's engine replaced at 180k because the owner listened to the owners manual and replaced their oil only every 10k miles at the dealership, jsut don't trust those oil change recommendations, the car manufacturers don't care if your car breaks down after the warranty is up.
Thanks for sharing. The tech sounds knowledgeable, but he's not an oil tribologist; which is why he's making an incredibly blanket recommendation of 5k and 6 months. IWe also have too little info, to be honest.

If I read it right,180k miles for a 2015 is a TON of driving.

Did he mention somewhere in the video what kind of driving and what kind of oil the owner used?

He also showed clean bearing surfaces, but also showed that the two outermost cylinders were affected. He kind of breezed past the other two cylinders, which, if not gummed up, leads me to believe that a defect could be possible. Again, at 180k miles, a small defect begets more severe long term problems, eg, a small wear in the cylinder wall cross hatch could allow for blow by and a small amount of oil consumption. As the wear worsens, so too does the blow by and consumption. Issues like this compound, as well. The makeup oil might not have been added until the level was well below normal; not enough to cause excess e wear on the bearings, but enough to degrade the oil itself. So, the oil change interval is only relevant in THAT instance for those who don't check their oil often. Admittedly, that's a very large chunk of the population.

With that said, a very large chunk of the population pays someone else to do oil changes for them and almost never pop the hood. Those of us searching for deals on oil filters (a rare breed, indeed) likely pop the hood from time to time and check fluids and etc.

I also like how he tries to downplay oil analysis, saying something like, "they can't see this" and shows the gummed up oil control rings. That's such an incomplete bit of analysis it borders on fear-mongering. Fear mongering is a good thing for people who never pop the hood once over 10k miles between oil changes, but not people like me.

Summary: this is one data point on a very high mileage vehicle with a lot of unknowns; and none of this has to do with oil filters…

Oil changes should be based on the vehicle, engine condition, known issues, driving characteristics, oil choice and level of care.

I change the oil filter in my Subaru every ~20k miles (10K OCI) and don't burn an appreciable amount of oil. UOA shows good results.

As always, YMMV.

I have used Mobil 1 extended syn oil with Mobil 1 extended filter and ran up to 17+ K miles, sent a sample for analysis and showed no evidence of metal contamination and they even advised I could have run the oil longer because everything was above board.

This could be the best oil filter ever made in Earth's history. But guess what? If you are under warranty, and have engine problems, and take it in to your Stealership, they could deny coverage because of non OEM. Good luck!

This brand doesn't have best of reputation in terms of quality, according to YouTube. So proceed with caution, you might be able to pickup bulk oem filter for similar price
Yup. Paper end cap garbage.

if you want your car to last more than 100k miles or so than you should be changing oil ever 4k or so miles depeding on what you use, don't listen to the manufacturers that say you can go longer, they are using marketing to tell say you need less oil changes but won't care when your engine dies at 100k out of warranty.

Here's a video from a Toyota mechanic detailing on why you shouldn't be listening to the manufacturers oil change recommendations.

My car is at 130k. Always followed the maintenance minder. No issues.

This is such a damn good idea in principle except the oil filter i use doesn't work with a subscription. And when i did use subscribe and save with the oil, Amazon jacked up the price of my oil from $18 to $50. I can't trust them anymore

I pass on any aftermarket filter unless I'm in a pinch - OEM filters can often be had for less, and in some cases have pre-greased o rings and dust caps. Nobody has dumped more R&D into preserving your engine than the OEM, aftermarket is basically all marketing.

Again nobody is saying you change the OIL at 20K miles. But you can use this 20K filter to run 2 OCIs changing the filter every other time, as stated in the owners manual as perfectly fine and by definition recommended
I'm not running new oil through an old dirty filter. I also don't put my used underwear back on after I take a shower. But hey, you do you.

My Mazda6 recommends Castrol synthetic oil every 5k miles according to the manual. I change the filter with my oil regardless.
