More room for upgrades with this one. 12th gen Intel smokes the 5 series Ryzen in performance.

Can take ddr5 ram and supports 64gb max. Only question is what charger this one comes with as the best buy deal has a 135w charger that limits the video card. You need at least the 170w charger and Lenovo has proprietary cables (charger alone is usually ~$70+tax/shipping)

This is the better buy if it comes with at least the 170w charger.

E: This also has all pcie4 slots, unlike the linked best buy deal (that is dead anyways). Product page says it comes with 170w charger and thunderbolt 4 port. This is a MUCH BETTER deal if you can swing it.

I saw this in person at best buy. The screen is 250 nits with horrible viewing angels. Deal breaker.

Are you sure it is this one? The best buy near me has an older version of the ideapad 3 gaming on display. I will admit, the display on that one was really bad.... especially next to the higher legion models.

all the great deals for 17.3" laptops, they only have a 1080p screen, hard to find one with at least a 2k resolution, are they all trying to get rid of older techs?

Has anyone reviewed the performance of DDR4 from 2400mhz up to 4200mhz?

In turn, DDR4 v DDR5, Seems like people are getting hung up on memory as a real bottle neck when it's clearly not.

Real world, 95% of people won't notice a difference between ddr4 vs ddr5. It's negligible and honestly not worth the cost right now unless you are crazy and want to spend unnecessary money on budget laptops. It depends on what you want out of this laptop and what you're going to use it for. Even ddr4 will be absolutely fine for gaming. Obviously, you won't be breaking records with a BUDGET gaming laptop so people have to keep their expectations real.

WIth so many variants, I can't be sure it's the same. But I did look at a Lenovo IdeaPad 3i with a 250 nits display at best buy. I googled this 82S900H6US model and references say it also has 250 nits display.

I went to BB again to check out the Acer Nitro 5 but I also looked at the ideapad that they had on display. I swear I adjusted the screen to 100% but one of the employees came over and I asked them if the screen was really that bad. They then did something and the screen became quite a bit brighter. It still wasn't great but workable. I have also purchased the laptop deal from Walmart (Legion 5). I chatted online with a Walmart rep and they told me I can open the box, which I did. I have checked out the computer and while the screen does not get super bright, it is good enough and has a decent viewing angle. It could be just a fluke because I believe both laptops have the same screen. I've gone full OCD on trying to get my kid the best budget laptop so I also purchased the ideapad gaming 3 from Amazon. I don't know if Amazon allows you to open the box so I used a heatgun to remove the seal on the box so I could check it out. The screen seemed slightly brighter than the one on the Legion 5 but the viewing angle was not as good. The Legion 5 definitely has a better build and feel even though the keyboard is exactly the same. the Ryzen 5 6600h in the ideapad was noticeably faster than the 5600 even though I was only starting the laptop into Windows setup. The Intel I5 in this deal will blow either Ryzen CPU away. I didn't set either computer up because I will be returning one of them ... or both if I get the Acer (which actually has a decent screen). Anyway, hopefully none of that was confusing.
