Be aware that if you get this, it's possible Amazon will be in control of your subscription and that it might not stack with other subscriptions (I.E. if you already have an existing subscription and activate this, you may end up with two subscriptions).

I've read that it can be used to extend a subscription if done in a certain way.

Yes, Amazon controlling the management is really a nightmare. I used to stack these for years at a time without issue with MS but cannot with Amazon. They give me a new subscription.

That being said, Amazon runs this same $50 gift card promotion every year at this time so I've just been doing that and I guess I don't care whether it adds to my current sub or creates a new one.

Be aware that if you get this, it's possible Amazon will be in control of your subscription and that it might not stack with other subscriptions (I.E. if you already have an existing subscription and activate this, you may end up with two subscriptions).

I've read that it can be used to extend a subscription if done in a certain way.

I did this yearly as well and it stacked onto my same subscription thru Amazon properly. However Amazon had a sale earlier this year and when I bought it did not stack so I contacted customer support and they refunded me. I may try again later.

My current subscription on Amazon expires July 23. So, if I apply it now, would it stack or create a new subscription ?

Edit: When I try to activate it is going to Microsoft. So I am thinking it would see the current subscription?

Yes if the subscriptions starts on the activation date, then that would extend your time the most. However there are plenty of comments that say the sub starts on purchase date and not activation date, so ymmv

My subscription for one year came with the laptop I purchased in April 2022. I will try adding this one and see what happens. I will hang onto the gift card and may have a return issued if I cannot stack with my current subscription, though it would still be a good deal for me if I lost the months I have remaining.

I'll be a test dummy on this. I bought this from amazon last black Friday 11/28/21 and that is set to expire on 12/28/22 ( I forget if I activated it right away and it extended my current subscription or if I waited to activate it). I bought it this morning, turned off auto renew on my old one, and activated the new one. I want to see if it will extend the one that ends on 12/28 or will expire on 11/27/23. Either way I will just make sure to turn off auto renewal and buy it next black Friday. I do not like how it takes all the subscription info off Microsoft and into Amazons hands. However I do use the product and worst case I loose out on a month of a subscription...

Worked and the new subscription stacks on top of the old one. All I had to do was activate the new subscription, which took me to Microsoft, logged in, Microsoft quickly said "Success! You've just renewed Microsoft 365," and a minute later Amazon shows my just purchased subscription as "canceled" and the new one is good for another year.

Amazon updated my subscription, New one is set to expire 12/28/23, so I did not lose the month.

I did this last year and regretted it - my current subscription was set to expire in July 2022, and when I activated the 1 year from Amazon my sub went to 11/2022, so I paid the price for a full year and only got 5 months. I'm going back to Microsoft out of spite despite the deal being good.

You can extend the Microsoft subscription up to 5 years. Mine expires in March 2027. The subscription is managed by Amazon. These Amazon offers used to be $50 plus $50 gift card. When they dropped to $42.50, I bought and activated more than one as an extension. I would buy this again but I can't activate until March 2023. In my opinion, $42.50 for Microsoft Family is a great deal - if for nothing else than the 6 TB of cloud storage.

I bit... at first I had 2 subscriptions but 5min later (while I was chatting w Amazon help) they stacked converting to one subscription with an additional 1 year tacked on
