One advantage of 1 second is checking meat for internal temp. As you advance the probe you get near-real-time readings which lets you know what your min temp is.

If you are making thousands of sticks a day 1 second is totally worth it.

If you are making candy on the regular, the improved accuracy is worth it.

For typical home use? Not really worth it unless you're a BIFL type of person.

I thought the code was unique but looks like I got the same one. Good to go!

If you have an older thermapen and are replacing it with this, you may be disappointed... I was.
The probe is much harder to pull out from the body.
The display is almost constantly upside down and you have to rotate it and shake it, etc, to get it right side up.
The lighted display comes on when you don't need it but not when you do.
And for whatever reason, it seems slower to read and much more inconsistent with readings.
"The enemy of good is better" was very true for me in this case.

Stupid question, but is a one second response time really worth 5x more than the Pop model with the 2-3 second readout? I know these are great at what they do, I'm just curious about if the cost is really worth it if you already have their slower version.

My cheap ThermoPro TP-02S Instant Read Meat Thermometer seems to work for me. Not sure my cooking will taste any better with this ThermoWorks brand.

I upgraded from an older unit last year. It's been great for me but I think there is a toggle in the battery compartment to turn off rotation. Hope this helps

This. Critical of you also are a chef, or compete in competition BBQ, bake off's, etc. love mine and have been using it for years. I do compete, but being able to get the precise temp almost instantaneously is ideal when you are trying to reach a specific "cooked" range. There is a fine line between the meat being flavorful and moist vs rubbery and dry.
