That one wasn't an Acer.
Sorry, it was an ASUS. I'll go back and edit. Thanks!

Is it better than the $299 deal on this from the other day? Trying to stay around $300 for a basic laptop but I don't even know where to start. 😭

I found it, it's gonna be TN.
Bummer on the TN screen otherwise would've picked one up.

I was looking at that Acer too, but didn't place an order soon enough. I think the two are very comparable.

The CPU (i3-1220P) for the ASUS Vivobook 15-Slim-F1502ZA benchmarks a bit better than the Lenovo (i3-1215U), but both are modern 12-gen processors. The other specs are pretty much the same.

I've had a number of Lenovos and like their build quality so I pulled the trigger on this one for my daughter.
Yeah I bought the ASUS from OD but I am now wondering if I should return it for this one. I did get the $25 gift card with the ASUS, so it does have that going for it. nod

The biggest things that concern me are the screen and build quality between the ASUS and this one. Secondary would be the battery life. I played around with the ASUS on display in the store, and I liked it, but I thought the screen was not quite as bright on high settings compared to some of the others. I haven't opened mine yet to test fully. Anyone compared the two models in-store?

Like you said, the ASUS has slightly better benchmarks but nothing crazy. The P series do generate a bit more heat and consume more watts in testing. Other than that, everything else is very similar. Both have backlit keyboards. It appears both have soldered 8gb ram with the possibility to upgrade to 16gb with a free SODIMM slot.

This Lenovo has both USB-C power + display and also 4-in-1 memory card reader over the $299 ASUS from Office Depot.

It also appears the ASUS has a fingerprint reader where this doesn't. Personally, I've found a fingerprint reader to be quite handy for logging into things

Great points. I have a USB adapter for that, but the SD card slot on my old laptop does come in handy when transferring pics from my camera. I haven't had a laptop with USB-C power yet, but the fast charge possibilities are intriguing.

Also good point for ASUS. I noticed the button on the trackpad, but I didnt think about testing it in store, if it's even possible in demo mode.

Decisions, decisions......

I know nothing about computers lol. My daughter needs a computer for college classes and will be running some engineering and/or coding programs. Would this be enough ram/power for something like that? Trying to stay between $300-$400. Thank you so much for any help you can give.

Also looks like the ASUS comes with Win 11 Home in S-mode vs the Lenovo, which comes with the regular Win 11 Home. I know you can switch out of S-mode, but does anyone know if it's exactly the same version as the reg Home version when you switch?

Specs page linked above states Lenovo fingerprint reader integrated into power button.
