Instead of adding the filler item, I can upgrade to 512GB ssd or add accidental protection then end up around $740.

There is the Think Pad E14 on sale as well with one 8gig soldered and one sodimm so you can expand to 16 on that . That comes with integrated graphics card . If you are not looking for gaming and needs a good laptop seems that is a better deal. Also go via some CB site to get 15%

Soldered ram should be a crime. Wouldn't touch just on the principal. Bad for the environment to create electronic garbage down the road.
