Talking myself not to spend anymore money after buying unnecessary 6 pairs of new shoes and unnecessary new iPad Pro. Now I want this unnecessary drone. I need to stop keep opening slickdeal. Lol

Probably too much for a 8 year old. These are made to go far and one wrong move and you just lost $380. For a younger kid I would suggest a $100 or less drone

Similar price at Sams Club with extra battery, charging hub and spare propellers but no 32 GB micro SD card or bag.

the Costco bundle has 2 batteries so to match the FLY MORE Combo you have to get 1 extra $55, 1 hub $39, 1 set of propellers and screws $12
$380+ 106 = $486
Oh sweet. I'm sorry, I thought Costco only came with 1. So the Costco deal is the way to go.

How can I find out where I can take it?
Did you bring it in your checked back or carry-on for the ship?
Look up those places and local rules. They differ slightly but most are the same; don't fly directly over people, don't fly in national parks, don't harass wildlife, don't fly in restricted areas, use good judgement. AKA don't be stupid and you're good to fly. I didn't run into any issues when I flew my drone at the destinations on my cruise.

There's also an app called B4UFLY that can find your location and tell you if you're good to fly or not.

I did carry on. It's small enough to fit, and if you just have it loose in a bag, you can cram it into even the smallest of backpacks.

Does this have active tracking? Thought they are suppose to restrict flying without active tracking next year? Might have read wrong....

Anyone have any thoughts on cost value analysis of this vs the mini 3 pro? I had my heart set on the mini 3 pro, because of avoidance, and the camera, then I found the Autel Nano Plus which has an even better camera, is a few hundred cheaper than mini 3 pro, but lots of complaints about no active track yet (for the price) and struggling in the wind.

For $380, this seems like a steal for a drone with a good (not great camera), not avoidance or active track, but not the end of the world.
Because you asked, there are two types of drone pilots: flyers and photographers. If you want to fly, save the money and get a Mini 2. The Mini 3 is slightly better in a few minor ways for flight but nothing major. The camera is perfectly decent in anything but low light. With the current pricing there is no reason to buy the regular Autel Nano.

If you are primarily a photographer you want the Mini 3 or the Autel Nano Plus. There is not a lot of camera difference between the two but the DJI has a better reputation (good) and a DJI nanny that decides if you can take off (Geofencing, bad unless you are giving to a kid who might do the wrong thing.)

I went with the Mini 3 Pro to get the big 47 minute batteries.

Good luck!

I'm committed to neither honestly, I'm definitely more interested in the photography aspect, like sunsets, fireworks, etc and maybe even some film of my kids youth sporting events. The sensor size seems so small on the Mini 2...

Anyone can confirm if this remote controller has screen? I heard this one does not have it. I suppose it matters to me maybe since I will use it to do some recording activities

I have one of these and a sub $100 drone. The Mini2 thing flies far better, by far. It really isn't even in the same class. It is like the difference between a powerwheels and a real car. This said, my kid actually gets bored with it. It pretty much is a rock solid drone that flies itself. The cheapie is harder to fly but, in some ways, more fun to zip around the park and what not.

And unless you're attached to the drone...and it is pretty cool...at least at first, I'd just get a nice RC car/truck. My son keeps going back to the car over either the cheapie drone or this one (and this was for me, not him, but I let them fly it sometimes). And honestly, I find the RC car more fun on a regular basis too. The drone comes out when I want pictures, or we're somewhere new and I want to see what is around.

If you're not a pro this is more than enough. I use it for business, it's that good.

8 year old wants a drone for Christmas. Is this it ?
I think it's really easy to break drones... There are some super budget drones out there. Years and years ago, there was a SD post about an angry birds drone for $25. Camera on it was horrible, but it was basic and worked. I would advise getting something like that.

I can't speak to how often drones fly away from people these days, but that's still possible to do... And would be a lot of money to lose.

Edit - to be clear, I'm not specifically recommending the angry birds drone. I wouldn't advise buying such an old model because there is the chance of running into issues like the battery is very poor because it has sat in a warehouse for so long, and was manufactured ages ago.

Maybe check Amazon and Slickdeals. If you check Amazon, be sure to read the 3 star reviews in particular (as well as lower started ones)... 3 star reviews tend to be the most well thought out. Also, plug in the Amazon product URLs to something like FakeSpot to try to have it check for bogus/shill/paid reviews...

I was in Huatulco Mexico on vacation a few weeks ago and read that MX made it illegal for someone to enter the country with a drone.
Please confirm before going on your trip.

Its a great drone. I used it on Carson Pass above an iced lake and got amazing shots. I paid the same amount with the fly more bundle refurbed directly from DJI on eBay.

Thanks, got one for an upcoming trip. 90 days to see if it's worth keeping, since I live by several small airports and can't regularly fly around my house.
