Talking myself not to spend anymore money after buying unnecessary 6 pairs of new shoes and unnecessary new iPad Pro. Now I want this unnecessary drone. I need to stop keep opening slickdeal. Lol

Probably too much for a 8 year old. These are made to go far and one wrong move and you just lost $380. For a younger kid I would suggest a $100 or less drone

Similar price at Sams Club with extra battery, charging hub and spare propellers but no 32 GB micro SD card or bag.

This is their usual "sale" price. I've had mine for over a year now and I love it. I don't use it as much as I want but it's nice to have when I do need it. Great starter drone. It does come with two batteries but you will eventually want to buy the charging hub($39 on amazon)Amazon.

I love my mini 2 drone. Took it to Smoky mountains and Michigan Skybridge and managed to get some spectacular shots. This makes the more money I paid 2 months ago for a DJI refurbished unit.

Yes, certain areas you can't fly in, and there's a maximum height flight anywhere in the US (and most other countries) of 400 feet. It's really about 393 feet before it tells you to lower height, but you get the idea.
How do people get those great shots up in the mountains then?

I have this and I watched some youtube videos vs mini 3. Surprisingly, camera in mini 2 has nicer colors and more contrasty. The features on mini 3 didn't convince me to spend extra 300 400. So mini 2 it is.
I was wondering this but I don't want to overspend since it's my first drone.

This bundle does not, but the sam's club equivalent comes with the hub and extra propellers. The tradeoff with it is you don't get a case and MicroSD card. I had been planning to get a better case off of amazon and already have a card, so the sam's bundle is what I went with.

The bag is terrible anyway. I went and bought a hard case from harbor freight and have everything in there.
Yup. Same here. It's the Apache 3800 case. Make sure you all get the 3800, not the 2800. 3800 will fit everything, drone, controller, extra batteries, charger, sd card, etc. all nice and neat thanks to the arrangeable little styrofoam blocks.

2800 will only fit the drone and not the controller.

Sam's club is sold out for delivery. Ridiculously they sell it for $440 if you choose pick up and still available to order.

It gives you a high altitude warning before take off, but it still lets you take off. FYI it won't let you take off if the batteries are too cold. I removed them and warmed them up in my hands for a few minutes and off it went.

Agreed but on the flip side this has a lot of wind resistance and likely tighter control than those cheapies. Plus you can get the insurance that allows a certain number of replacements.

Do you have another model that you'd suggest? I'd like something quality. My son asked for one and in my opinion a gift that gets him out in the world as opposed to say, a game console, is totally worth embracing. His hand-eye coordination is impressive.
I can't comment on experience yet as we just ordered one for our son, but we picked a BEZGAR HQ051 from amazon. It's a small drone so we plan on flying it indoors primarily. It has altitude hold feature, which is really key for children. I have flown the Hubsan H107L indoor drone for years and it is a challenge to manage your altitude whilst also avoiding obstacles. Altitude hold allows kids to focus on forward/backward, left/right which is on one control stick and is manageable for children I feel. You don't have to get the BEZGAR, especially if you're looking for flying outdoors, but altitude hold is a feature (present on the dji Mini 2 too) you should require when shopping for child friendly drones. Hope that helps.

Isn't the eBay deal a better value for the money:

https://slickdeals.net/?sdtrk=iphone&apikey=fed3db37cbaa3e0a3a16d011ee44e3c8aecc37ca&api_key_id=2462....

Also if the Costco package doesn't come with a charging hub, how are we supposed to charge the batteries? Is there an alternative way to charge or is the charging hub absolutely needed?
you would charge it with the battery in the drone, so one at a time, manually

Same deal from a few months back, same price. I purchased this bundle before summer. You can see some of the photos I've taken with it at @clarkefishing on IG.

I have this drone and I love it. It's very small, fits in your hand, and folds up nicely in the bag, and I'm normally not a "buy a bundle with bag" kind of guy. It was so small that I was able to take it on my Norwegian cruise (security didn't catch it) when their policy states that they ban drones and got incredible shots of Bermuda. It's very simple to use. Takes great photos and video. The first time I flew it was right after a tropical storm came through, like first break in the rain after, and the wind was 25+ mph, and I had no issues controlling the drone. I got a couple of "high wind warnings" when I was up 300+ feet, but it's just a temporary warning. The auto land feature is cool but I like to land manually to practice. I also got stupid one time and flew it around the side of an island with buildings between the drone and I, when it was already almost a mile away, and it lost connection… after a full minute it reconnected and it was flying right back to me (it's programmed to return to its takeoff spot if it becomes disconnected). Super cool that he came back!

A couple of cons. You will buy an extra battery pretty soon because it's so much fun that 20 minutes goes by very quickly. It's also not the biggest/best sensor, especially compared to the Mini 3, which I may be buying soon. I also went to use it one day and it wouldn't fly due to some internal (I think IMU) error. I have the extra warranty through DJI and after chatting with support, they suggested I send it back to them, and they sent me a different refurbished Mini 2.

Overall I'm very happy with it and it's a good starter photography drone that can take some great photos without taking a ton of space if you're going on a trip.

If you're not interested in taking photos or videos, just flying it, I would get a different drone or one of the DJI POV drones.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
Just checked out your IG, awesome pictures. Thanks for sharing.
