Amazon is running a sale on Rokinon/Samyang Lenses for Sony Full Frame E-Mount Cameras. These can also be used on Sony APS-C cameras as well.

Available lenses:The three F1.4 lenses are fast primes and are good for strong bokeh/subject separation. I have the 35/50/85mm, and I'd definitely pick the 85mm out of all of them if I had to choose one (and its the cheapest right now!). I paid like $500+ for mine, so $350 is a steal.

The 35mm has a real close focus distance which can make for some interesting shots.

The 50mm is an older design so the focusing is a little on the slow slide, but still the best value fast 50 lens.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Wow, those are some great prices on a few of the lenses. I don't need any right now, but if you want a portrait lens, the 85 1.4 punches way above a $350 price tag.

Which camera are you using? The Samyang 85mm listed here has really bad focusing issues. I'm using an a7 III and have nothing but isdues. It may work for a few shots or even 10 then it can't focus on anything the save its life. It will just wig out and go in and out of focus. Got the "dock" to update the firmware but no change. Is there a setting somewhere I'm missing? My Sony and Sigma lenses have no issues.

I also use A73 and samyang lens are known as not as good as official Sony ones.

Didn't see this in the comments but I'm eyeing the 135mm and as it is sold by Amazon, it qualifies for the credit card deals (15% off with Amex or more if lucky, $10 off with chase, whatever else they've got floating around).

Also discover has 5% cash back on Amazon right now.

How's the IO85AF any different from the SYIO85AF listed?

That's false. As long as you're purchasing from a Samyang authorized dealer, their lenses include a 1 year warranty.

It's a great value on image quality, decent on build quality, medium-to-poor on autofocus. If you want an autofocus lens but don't care too much about speed or accuracy it'll be a good choice. Personally, if I can't rely on autofocus, I'd rather go straight manual and save the weight/cost/complexity/failure points.

The one exception is if *you* will use it in manual, but will also sometimes hand it to a non-photographer and want them to be able to take a pic without a full lecture. Spotty autofocus could be good enough for that--just ask them to take a bunch of shots and you'll probably get what you want.

The second gen (currently $576 on Amazon) improves on the first gen in every way, particularly autofocus, which is pretty solid. It also has noticeably better build quality and somehow weighs 20% less. I think it's worth the extra money, but I get that $210 is a big jump and not everyone will have the budget to cross-shop the two.

I'm not sure what the compromise option is--ten years ago every system had a good quality 50mm 1.8 you could get for $100 or less, but I don't think that's every existed for E mount. If there is one, most people would be better served by it than by Samyang's first gen 1.4.

How come the 35mm f1.8 isn't on this list? $229.97 seems like a great deal (at least when looking at camelcamelcamel historicals)

Samyang makes a great 45mm AF compact lens that's close, and I think is floating around $250. With the firmware updates some reviewers are saying the AF is quite good.

This is the best bargain on the list IMO.

Debating the 2.4f 24mm vs the 18mm... does anyone have any experience with these?
So f stop, lower the better, but can be confusing. A "fast" lense means it can open it aperture, it's eye, super fast,, so a high mm, low fstop means it can capture a lot of light really quickly, enabling stop motion photography with no blur. Like for sports, portraits of little ones, they're just extremely versatile. The Turkey expensive ones are adjustable by focal length as well as fstop. Also, if you divide the mm by the fstop, that gives you the real number you're looking for. 240mm divided by f2 = 120, 240 / 1.8 = 133. The larger the number in this calculation, the better. If memory serves that's how many mm the aperture opens and it can be easily made to look like a fast lense if you aren't paying attention.

Also, these lenses are great for astrophotography where your lense is open from anywhere from 20-120 seconds at a time, for 60-400 times a night, then stacked together with software giving you incredible shots off nebula with a little lens. Warning: astrophotography is very difficult and expensive lol
