These WIFI extenders are trash. Always dropping connection, and to fix it you have to reboot them. Go for mesh devices such as eero, netgear, Google etc

People hate on these, but they do have a use case. Not great for getting signal in devices that move around, but things that stay in the same location but are out of reach this can be helpful (e.g. smart TVs, smart home devices).

See one of the first posts by squantanamo. If your goal is a seamless network that your phone can switch from your wireless router to this and back as you move around this is not a great solution, look at mesh networking instead.
You can see my post as well. I love the thing, but have told my phone never to connect to it because the network switching just becomes aggravating. If you just want to extend your Wi-Fi so you can do things like run a WiFi speaker or pull up internet instructions once in awhile for car repairs on your laptop-without spending much money- it might work well for you, but no one will be able to answer that. you'll have to try.

What do y'all recommend for a home under 1800 sqft? I'm trying to get my mom to have better connection in house, when I go over to install Eufy cameras from BF later this week. I've noticed her signal is trash when moving away from the garage a few feet.

Thanks for your time.

If you are having wifi issues, please consider getting a mesh system instead of an extender. I can't tell you how much better your life will be after going in that direction.

Get a wifi mesh system, such as the one made by google. You can have it set up in 10 minutes using your phone. You probably only need two pucks.

It all depends on where the original wireless router will be located. If it's upstairs in the middle of the house and then you put one downstairs towards the garage, you should now get a strong signal all around the house. Trust me, you want to to go the mesh network route. So when you set it up, you will set both wireless routers on 1 network with a single name. So when you go upstairs, it will switch automatically to that router and when you go back downstairs, it will do the same. So it's seamless.

With the extender, you are actually naming it your network name, plus an extended network name. So essentially, you have 2 different wireless networks within the house. 1 for the main wireless and the 2nd will be this extender.

Now, if you want to somewhat future proof, you will want the Wifi 6E, but those are pretty pricy. A still good alternative is the Wifi 6 system at minimum. So look on the box for WiFi 6. You will get a stronger signal and faster wireless from it as well. It better controls the output to each device and can handle more devices at once. So if you have a big family and many devices using wifi, this will handle the traffic much better. This is decent one for 3 units. Put one at the main modem, put a 2nd one about 50 feet away downstairs, and put the 3rd wherever you want. https://www.amazon.com/Mesh-Wifi-...6e4cdc8f10

I dont know if you can daisy chain these together or not, but i suspect it wont work well even if you can.

The unit must be placed somewhere where you do have signal so it can connect to your router and provide access itself. If you have an outlet somewhere in your house where your coverage is good and it is not far from the garage that would be the place to try it. If you dont have wifi coverage anywhere near your garage, your house must be big and you really should look at mesh setups instead.

I have been using this when I travel. it's very helpful when I cannot connect to public wifi at the hotel where the Ethernet jack is available in the room.

Just my experience, this will extend your network range but your speed will take a significant hit.

One room I tested went from 60 Mbps without the extender down to 30 Mbps at the extender. It cut the speed in half. And of course it was even slower further away.
This is because all extenders use half the bandwidth to communicate back to the main router so it only has half the bandwidth to communicate with the clients. If you run an ethernet cable and use this as an access point, your speed won't drop.

That's exactly what I'm using an extender (Dlink brand) for. The wifi signal to my outdoor garage camera is somewhat unstable due to its distance from my router, and setting up an extender inside my garage was a perfect and cheap way to extend the signal just a bit further and keep it stable for my camera.
