While "up to 40%" is advertised, you can save even more booking via the united app. the same fares that are 21k miles on the web show up at 17.5k in the app. also some premium (usually not saver fare) routes are priced at 50% off the typical lowest saver fares. e.g. the direct flights that are usually 80k miles and the saver routes that are usually around 35k are now almost all 17.5k.

many of the europe and australia fares are not that good unless you're going to those specific cities in Europe, and the Australia fares are still high, but Japan is smoking.. 35k miles and $50 round trip is cheaper than many domestic routes. Decent chance at catching some cherry blossoms toward the end of availability

I also only see 50K flights... some 21k flights that have ungodly layovers in IAH. I'm premier 1K, but don't have a credit card... hmmm. Looking at February 18-February 27.

I saw some good deals from LAX-LHR in March for 30k miles round trip. I unfortunately already have a trip to Puerto Rico booked on the cheapest times in February to use this promo, so it sucks for me.

What double sucks is I recently got my 100,000 miles intro bonus for the United Club card, so this would've been the perfect time to take advantage.

Definitely some good deals here and there tho!

Would this work with a Freedom Flex card? I have about 70k points and flights to NZ were about $1200 round trip before any discounts...

Thank you OP, booked EUG-PPT for 35K RT. That's just 10K more miles than a standard domestic RT. Wished it was extended further out than March 21st.

Remember UA metal award flights will count for 2024 Premier Qualifying during 2023.

This would not work with your card. You need United card (Chase offers multiple cards like Explorer, Quest) to get these discounted rates if you don't have status with United.

Also, if you need to transfer those 70K to United then you need a card like Chase Sapphire Preferred/Reserve. Freedom does not have that ability.

You might also consider AMEX Gold (or Platinum but the annual fee is harder to swallow). Not sure what the sign on is right now, but they usually have a 30-40% bonus when transferring to Avios at least once a year. If you could get a 60k initial points bonus, you could change that into 84k Avios -- a RT non-peak ticket to Dublin is 26k on Aer Lingus. Book a cheap one-way on Ryanair from Dublin, and you can reach a good portion of Europe (our tickets from DUB-LHR were $30 each). Avios also works on British Air and Iberia, but the taxes direct to London can be prohibitive.

Not necessarily the most timely route, but something to consider in the future.

Yeah. I missed the fine print too, the greater discounts were only for Monday, and the lesser discount continues rest of week.
