Any thoughts on whether I should grab a pair for $399.98 total, or just get a better single subwoofer elsewhere?
Many people swear by dual subs, but a lot depends on the size of your room and how loud you like to listen. FWIW I've done it both ways, even in the same room, and haven't established a preference.

Thanks again!

For that budget I'd go with a pair of Daytons or 10" Klipsch, if you can find them at that price. If you can find a single SVS on sale for that price that could be an option but for me I prefer the dual sub setup. It just seems to full the room more with bass and sub bass, especially with a diagonal setup.

After trying a dual sub setup a few years ago and hearing the difference, I'd never go back to a single sub setup unless it's the bedroom or small room. I have my setup in an average size living room in a small single family home and my double 10" Klipsch subs just fills it nicely with bass, even at lower volume levels. My family and friends notices it immediately too even when the TV or music volume is at just conversation level.

In for this deal. I've got the info I need to research receivers and a subwoofer. How about cables? Does this come with them? The Adorama page doesn't say anything about it.

Can someone point me in the right direction of what cables I may need to buy for these? Is this a situation where banana plugs would help too?

No, cables aren't included. You'll need enough speaker wire to run from the receiver to each speaker, plus of course, a way to cut and strip the wire (or you could purchase pre-cut and pre-terminated wire, but that'll probably be more expensive and it doesn't really give you the opportunity to get the wire to the exact length that you need). You can use banana plugs if you like; they make it easy to connect and disconnect the wire, but they're not strictly necessary, and won't affect the sound either way. If you're going to use them, make sure there's enough space behind where your receiver will be going, since you'll need another 1-2 inches of rear clearance that won't be required if you use bare wire.

You should also be aware that some lower-end receivers don't support the use of banana plugs (of course, you could just use them on the speaker end of the wires, and bare wire on the other).

Loudness has nothing to do with it. It's about evening out bass peaks and dips due to length of bass sound waves and room dimensions. There a Harman white paper on the benefits of multiple subs and the science behind it you can read.
