From first paragraph of Acer Product Page here: https://www.acer.com/us-en/laptop....K0FAA.002
Its an IPS Display; ~300 NITS from various reviews.

Note that Acer' Ebay store is a separate entity, Acer would not recognize them as official.

The ebay store is notorious for selling dented, scratched units with mediocre battery. Do not expect pristine condition refurbished units as you would usually get in from manufacturers.

I bought Acer Nitro 5 from them, and the battery turned out to be faulty. It was a little over the return window, they wouldn't honor it. Not to mention the unit was noticeably used and scratched

Thanks OP - I was kinda peeved about not finding that perfect deal all throughout BF/CM. Then your post alert saved the day! For the solid build quality and specs I'm comfortable with the compromises, especially at under $400. Great find.

Very good deal. If I didn't get a Dell Latitude Refurb I'd get this one. Cheaper and more powerful than my Latitude!

is laptopmedia a reliable reviewer? I found their youtube review and website article (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iLsp-73Cxo and https://laptopmedia.com/review/ac...2/#battery) which seems to show decent battery life.

Their review at least does some sort of battery test vs ultrabookreview seems to be kind of speculating
Honestly, I would not rely on either websites. The laptopmedia website compares this 12 gen laptop to the previous one showing this laptop having higher battery life which does not make any sense. The Acer description states a maximum battery life of 10.5 hours while the previous gen shows 16 hours on their website. Yet the laptopmedia website shows the opposite. If you check Acer forums and comments under review websites expect less than 6 hours. The 10.5 hours advertised is talking about the most optimal and lowest settings while idle. It is all marketing. If you go on youtube and search this model there is someone showing battery life and the loud fan noise.

I bought a refurb laptop in July. It came in mint condition like it was brand new. I tested the battery and it seemed OK to me. The only issue is that it had a constant blue screen of death coming out of sleep mode (which we did not catch until after the 30 day period). You have to pay to ship it for warranty service. It did come back OK after service.
How much did you pay for shipping? Seems like too much other companies provide a shipping label for free....

Costco sells the same model for $549 and I have been eyeing it for a few weeks. This deal is better because I have bought certified laptop from Acer on EBay befoe and it was like new and with warranty.

A deal breaker for me is from a couple of reviews on Costco.com about the fan noise on this Acer. I was given an HP Elitebook laptop for work and the fan used to make high pitch noise so bad that I refused to use it and used my own personal laptop instead, After some windows or firmware update some months later the HP laptop fan rarely comes on any more and I am using it right now.
Limit the max frequency, it will not run as hot.

You can do it natively by unlocking [majorgeeks.com] the Windows power options [microsoft.com]. With Alder Lake you need to unlock MaxFrequency and MaxFrequency1.

Alder Lake's frequency sweet spot is 4GHz for the big cores, and 3GHz for the small cores. Any higher frequency will improve performance at the cost of much higher energy (20% perfomrance boost with 80% more energy). [Source [chipsandcheese.com]]

You should limit the big core to 4GHz and the small cores to 3GHz, your PC will perform 20% slower (but a lot of task are not CPU bound, many are disk bound which won't be affected), but it will be 40% cooler. You can also make different power profiles and switch between them if you need to.

DAMN. i litterally JUST got the Acer Vero "earth friendly" laptop from costco with similar specs for $100 more. would have jumped on this jawnson
IIRC Costco is really friendly with returns, as long as you kept it in nice condition.

I think this is the winner. I have been scouting for a decent non-gaming laptop for under $500 for a week and was disappointed in the BF/CM sales.

It checks most boxes for a good everyday machine
- Good display (would have preferred 15.6 though)
- 16gb RAM
- Great processor (12 cores is crazy)
- Good build quality

Also has very decent reviews. I would rather a laptop be loud rather than overheat Hopefully though the noise is not too bad.

Like some other users mentioned probably best laptop deal in less than $500 price segment for this holiday season.
I purchased the $300 Asus laptop from office depot deal last week but the screen,RAM and USB C charging port on this are worth the extra $100 . Good find OP

Ultimately, the price to value seems too good to pass. I do, however, want to do my due diligence. Planning on testing the battery, a couple data related apps to check the level of fan noise etc.
Mind suggesting a few other tests that you intend to cover?
I'll be testing the battery also, and will be putting it thru some high intensity tasks to see how it performs in general, and I will start a very demanding photo or video editing task that will take the machine a while to perform, to see how bad the fans are. Maybe a stress test tool also (similar to the speedtest tools), though I'm not an expert on these. Maybe some other tests of features, buttons, etc, but the core of what I want to test is the fans and the battery.

$16 via UPS through PirateShip. But yes, thats exactly the issue. HP previously sent us a special box and label. No hassle
