If you want to do any astrophotography then you'll need an auto tracker base and those get expensive.
I'm a novice that poured a lot of time and energy in learning everything about them when I was in the market. Got a big 8" dob and have used it twice in the last 3 years. It's so massive to take out and I'm in the city with a lot of light pollution so I can't do any DSO without driving a couple hours away

I highly recommend that everyone YouTubes the video about expectations of what you think you'll see vs reality of what you'll actually see. I have a large 8" Dobbins and my expectation did not meet reality.
YouTube that video.
Thank you. Would you recommend an auto tracker for a newbie or would this be perfectly fine as a starter?
There's great YouTube videos out there that'll walk you thru these. One thing about telescopes is they don't change much so the videos that are 10 years old are just as fine to watch.

YouTube that video.
I don't know whether this is the specific video you meant, but it definitely made me realize this isn't worthwhile.

That's the video! Lol
My comment wasn't meant to discourage by any means, I think the hobby is great and advocate for you and others to get into it, especially if you have kids.
My comment was more to prevent ppl from getting this with a certain expectation and then be completely deterred.
You can get a nice used telescope and there's even a website like darkskies that has a community marketplace which the members self police to keep most transactions safe.
Get into the hobby, but get into it right.
You've just made me motivate myself to get mine out again
Anything in that price range will let you see the moon pretty well and that's about it. And a good pair of binoculars will too.
Not saying don't get it, but understand what you're getting.
