These things are terrible in a dark room. I bought one a few months ago and had to send it back because of that. There's an "adaptive brightness" that can't be turned off so if your room isn't bright enough then the clock can get too dim to see.

Please note, this is the Alexa enabled version vs the Google Home enabled version.

I stopped buying Alexa products a long time ago when I asked:

Me: "Hey Google, how long does it take to get to <some other town>?"
Google: "By car, it will take you X minutes with current traffic."

Me: "Alexa, how long does it take to get to <some other town>"
Alexa: "I can tell you that <town> is X miles away, but because I don't know how fast you're going, I can't tell you how long it will take."

I have like 5 of the older versions of these and love them. Looks like new version doesn't have USB in back to use for charging things now and don't see anywhere it has a light which you can turn on by holding the volume down button. I have 1 that Lenovo replaced under warranty for dim LEDs and another i don't think I'll go thru the hassle of fixing. So 3 out of 5 of the older versions and still going with no problems. If you can do without the USB and light it's a good deal. Most useful part to me is the at a glance weather on the display.

Funny I've never considered a smart clock, but like so many other things I've learned about on Slickdeals, I feel like I need one now.😂

But yeah, reviews suggest this is a weak one:

For me, auto dimming is a must, as is controlling it from an app. I'm inclined to turn off voice commands in the bedroom. Any other recommendations?

how is the sound quality?
any better than echo dot 3rd gen?
Nope worse. Kind of like a small am radio sound to it. Fine for telling the weather but not much for music

I thought that it was intentional to keep the brightness to minimum when in a dark room .
As dark room is indicative of sleep time and the brightness isn't distracting you . I have been using something similar for few years now google version) and very pleased with its capabilities in addition to functioning as an alarm clock

I have 3 of the Google version of these and they're great. This Alexa version dims the clock WAY too much though and there's no way to adjust the brightness level. I really like the Google version and the lack of a decent Amazon replacement is one of the main reasons I returned several Alexa products and reverted back to my Google setup when I was thinking about switching.

Check the amazon 1-star reviews and you can see that's one of the biggest complaints. Just do ctrl+f and search for the word "brightness" here:

Can this be paired to another Bluetooth speaker?

My Alexa model that I got a few weeks ago can manually set the brightness.

Does it actually stay at the brighter setting though? From what I remember you could ask it to change the brightness, but it wouldn't last very long. I don't want to have to talk to my clock every night just to see what time it is.

Does this work with iphone?
I am able to stream audio from my iPhone via bluetooth just fine. Also, the Alexa app, which runs on iOS is how I interact with this device other than using voice commands.

Can you set alarms for only weekdays?
Yes, according to wikiHow, this can be done:

Quote :
Ask Alexa to set a repeating alarm. If you wanted your alarm to go off only on the weekdays, you would say "Alexa, set a repeating alarm for 7 AM." Alexa will then ask you, "On which days?" You would reply, "On weekdays." You can also reply with things like "Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday," to set the days you want the alarm to repeat.
