So many people on SD knock the echo 5. IMHO it's a great little device - especially for the price. We've been systematically replacing all echo dots in our house with these as they are basically an advanced alarm clock. If you are looking at them as a tablet replacement then you are going to be disappointed. But for the price, they are quite good. I can pull up my security cameras, put a show on in the background, see what song I'm listening to on Spotify, and get a visual display when asking for the weather or any other question to Alexa. The echo 8 is obviously better but it's also 2x the cost for 3" bigger screen. For me and many others the echo 5 is a great value.

Today I got my echo 5 show from a doorbell bundle. This thing is so bad. Amazon must have cooked the reviews there's no way so many people think it's that good. 20 mins with this thing and I realize this thing will barely be used. It's hard to even navigate on this thing. I swipe down to get the menu and I usually have to do it couple times. In some menus there's no back button. It recommends nearby cheese spots (which I don't care about at all) and I was stuck. No back button. So many useless ads or recommendations that I had to disable. But can't fix bad navigation and bad screen. This thing is pretty bad...

I was planning to upgrade from echo dot to echo show 8 , but am worried that it will add another screen for kids ....the dot is mostly used by 6 year old for listening to music and dancing ....any thoughts from parents with kids ...is the echo show 8 useful from a kids perspective..

So I did the same "upgrade" for our 7 year old. I kind of regret it. He only listens to music on it 90% of the time, which is fine. But I find him aimlessly scrolling through past songs to find particular ones now or reading along with the lyrics. He gets stuck at times, just like any other screen.

Thanks . My 6 year old asks Alexa to play songs and tries to recollect the songs and talk to Alexa . which is the only reason for us having an Echo . Thats fine with me . But i had to upgrade ,,, so I have ordered an Echo Studio , which the whole family can use to listen to music.
