Apple 5k and retina screens are 200-220ppi.
1440p @ 27" = 108ppi = looks like every crappy low res monitor from the last 20 years.
4k @ 27" = 160 = 160ppi = not as good as full retina, but looks WAY better than 90-110 ppi range.
It's not worth trying to save $50 here or something to drop down to 1440p.

Most people won't give a rats ass about the difference between a 1440 and 4K at 27''… hell, look how popular 1080 27'' monitors are on SD. Much less your elitist Apple 5K nonsense comparison.
Company laptops are generally a budget line business laptop from the likes of Lenovo/Dell/HP that often are a couple generations old, such as a 10th gen core i5 or so. The IGP in these laptops are often limited to 4k only on a single DP or thunderbolt port. Moving to MST, you're often limited to 2 1440p screens, or 3 1080p.
To get dual 4k@60hz, you need a capable TB4 dock and TB4 laptop.
Text isn't as clear as higher resolution 1440p and above, but for general work, 1080p is still an acceptable resolution for general work tasks such as email, data analysis, etc.
And if they don't provide a docking station with adequate ports, then 3x 25" 1080p ultrasharps connected together via MST is a good option.
Regarding USB-C, if I get two of them, do they allow power to shared between the two with just 1 wire? Meaning can I plug 1 USB-C to my computer (or dock) and then another cable from one monitor to another, and then keyboard & mouse to 2nd monitor (so maybe I can avoid using the dock altogether, just 1 wire? (Or I guess 2, so I can get power to my Laptop too)

screen 1: email / teams / slack
screen 2: document display
screen 3: ui for whatever internal system you're working with
As technology advances, 4K will become standard in future years like 1080p overtook 1280x1024 as standard.
Fact is, 4K on 27" is nice, whether you need it or not, scale or not. If you can afford one, you really should treat yourself. Once you are used to 4K on 27", it's hard to go back, even 1440p.
I bought this Dell monitor before thanksgiving, and also the $200 Samsung LS27A800UNNXZA briefly available on Amazon during BF. (Both of them are back to higher price now)
This Dell doesn't have a display port (2 HDMI + usb-C) and 1 fewer USB A port.
USB-C PD is 65W and the Samsung is 90W. spec-wise the Samsung is better in every way except the max brightness is 50nit less than this Dell, and the price was incredible.
I like Dell's hardware low blue light solution that doesn't affect the color while the Samsung eye-care settings will produce a yellowish tint like the night mode on your phone.
I like this Dell better despite high price and lower spec. (Took me a while to get the Samsung DP to work, keep getting the no signal message).
I'm keeping both of them. These are not my first 4K monitors, I have had others for several years at 27" and 32". If you doubt whether 4K make sense on 27", it makes a huge difference, even if you don't "need" it.
I currently have a Dell U2412 (16:10 monitor). I decided to replace my 24" monitor with a 27". I recently purchased a Dell U2720QM 4k monitor for $350 ($305 after CB). I also purchased two Samsung S80 4k monitors for $200 each ($180 after CB). Earlier, Samsung monitors earlier had a delivery time of January (thought I would have time to decide) but it got delivered earlier this week.
The Dell U2720QM looks great. I am planning to connect another 27" monitor. I haven't opened the Samsung S80 yet. I am planning to keep one Samsung monitor and sell another. Can I connect my Dell Precision 5550 with Dell U2720QM and Samsung S80 4k monitors ? Dell U2720QM has HDMI port, DP port and USB-C/DisplayPort. I am connecting my laptop's Thunderbolt 3 to Dell monitor's USB-C/DisplayPort. Can I connect Dell monitor's DP port to Samsung S80 that has HDMI, DP and USB (all three appear to have in only and not out). Can it be daisy-chained? BTW: Is it better to have two similar monitors? TIA.
