5600 has more cache but most of all supports PCI express 4.0 whereas the G supports only 3.0.

Better get a 5600 for $118 instead if you want to pair it with a GPU.

The 5600 has 2x the cache (16MB vs 32MB) and has much faster data transfer rates (PCI 4) for storage and GPUs.

Any suggestions for good, inexpensive motherboards? Preferably MBs that don't require a BIOS update to recognize a Ryzen 5600g (I know AMD will send you a processor to update your BIOS - seems like a hassle though). I'm thinking a $100 (plus or minus $50 or so) motherboard.

I'm not seeing the 10% off. How do I verify it?

Edit: never mind, I figure it out.

I have the older asus b450m mobos and they are super stable. From just a quick look, this looks similar to it: ASUS Prime A520M-A II/CSM AMD AM4(3rd Gen Ryzen) microATX Commercial Motherboard(ECC Memory,M.2 Support,1Gb Ethernet, DP/HDMI 2.1/D-Sub, 4K@60HZ, USB3.2 Gen1Type-A, ARGBheader with AURAsync) https://a.co/d/5H7cdA9
or
https://www.newegg.com/asus-prime...klink=true

Looks like Newegg has the asus b450m for back order for the same price:

I got the 5600G a month ago because I figured I'd run it without a GPU at first and see if it is sufficient for light gaming. It's been solid.

But with decent $100 GPUs floating around that are 3x the tflops of the 5600G iGPU, it might be the better path.
But why spend another $100.. when I want a $<300 rig

Getting to the price that I argued with many that it should have been originally at, if we had no Covid. 99 bucks is more ideal and the 5700g should be 129. Guys were like 4 cores is all that's needed for gaming lol. Six has been the new four for at least 2-3 years.

It's the return of the 300 dollar build, add that $100 AMD 6500 gpu and you got yourself a 1080p starter gaming machine for 400 bucks.

I've used both a 5600G and 5600X in the same computer. For kicks and giggles I tested it with a 3080 10GB. The 5600X was noticeably smoother when gaming. This shows out in the following video. The 5600X is about 35-40% more FPS at 1080p in the linked video, which was my experience.

I then took out the 5600X for the 5600G and sold the 3080 10GB recently. For a daily driver computer for my girlfriend, it is more than enough horsepower.

I bought this CPU when it first came out during the GPU shortage and assigned it to a Hyper-V Windows VM to have full GPU-P virtualization to use as a low-end gaming VM for my kids to play on. I was able to divy up my 6600XT at the time to be shared between one VM, host, and the 5600G iGPU to another VM to create three gaming computers out of one computer. Two VMs and the host, each with 8GB (or more) RAN and 4 vCPUs (basically two cores using hyper-threading each for for virtual CPUs). Overall that setup was a champ at the time and this CPU is a real bargin at this price.

I have no complaints. Since I have a B450 motherboard, the PCIe 3.0 x16 for dGPU wasn't a deal breaker for me.

For those on older boards that can only go up to 4600g, it's on sale for $99 also. Obviously the 5600g is better, but if you have say a Deskmini A300 like I do, 4600g is all that is supported (technically not since they took down the bios that supported it but you can still find it out there).

On the 5600g I have the offer for 10% back on Amazon Prime CC also making it even better.

I can add a COMBO to this Deal

1) Small case with 500W PSU and AMD Motherboard, with even capability to add Graphics Card for $170

https://www.newegg.com/asrock-des...6856158083

3) 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 to go with the above Motherboard for $70

https://www.newegg.com/team-32gb-...6820331618

So Total $240 for above combo and all you need now is an M2/SATA SSD. And you have the system ready. I have not seen a cheaper build than this.
