Love a good hiking stick and this should last a lifetime. I hike our Sierra's and always take my wood stick on day trips and a hiking pole (aluminum, not carbon fiber) if backpacking. A good pole will really help on a decent, crossing a stream, rock hopping, loose rock, etc.

I have one I bought from Academy years ago, they are nice walking sticks! Looks like Home Depot has the better looking twisted sweet gum for $24.55..........
