A couple bucks more than last time on FP.

About this item
  • POWERFUL PERFORMANCE WITH LESS FREQUENT CLEANING - TORNADO FLUSH swirls water in a circular pattern to fully wash the bowl surface. CEFIONTECT is an ultra-smooth glaze that minimizes waste from sticking so that it is easily washed away.
  • MORE COMFORT ACROSS A WIDER RANGE OF INDIVIDUALS - TOTO's Universal Height is taller than a standard toilet and makes sitting down and standing up easier for many people. Universal Height models are capable of meeting the ADA height requirement.
  • REDUCE WATER USEAGE WITHOUT SACRIFICE - The 1.6 gallon per flush Drake enables you to save water without worrying about diminished performance. The Drake features a wide 3 inch flush valve and a siphon jet bowl that gets the job done in one flush.
  • STYLISH AND MODERN DESIGN - Update your oasis with this stylish design that couples well with any bathroom décor. The elongated bowl provides added space for comfort. The toilet fits into 12 inch rough-in installations and has a left-hand trip lever.
  • COMPLETE YOUR TOILET - Finish your purchase with the addition of a TOTO SoftClose seat or upgrade to a WASHLET bidet seat. Drake tank and bowl with hardware included. Purchased Separately: Wax ring, flange bolts, and water supply lines.

~20 years ago when we did a major house remodel, I did research on which toilet to get among many other things. The last thing you want is to end up with a subpar toilet (not that you can't get a great toilet under $200). I'm the type to to research everything and figure out what's best and for whatever reason settled on Toto Drake toilets back then and have had no regrets.

Here's one plumber I followed at the time and his current toilet recommendations: https://terrylove.com/crtoilet.htm. He runs a plumbing forum [terrylove.com] where you can probably get more use info on toilet recommendations (including discussion of the CST776 Drake toilet [terrylove.com]).
This will dispose of the largest of BMs and not clog
There's a reason why you see Toto in many commercial buildings (airports, etc.), they tend be built of higher quality and are more reliable than your big box store variety with Toto being engineered to handle more asses than Johnny Sins
similar with faucets from a plumbing store which has more brass internals vs the plastic components in big box store models

Okay, actually in the market for a replacement toilet. What makes this one worth it over the sub-$200 options?

Got 4, missed out on the last deal a few weeks ago. I changed out 3 toilets in my last house since they were not the best with Totos and zero regrets. My current house has four perfectly functional toilets but they don't compare to Totos, so I've been waiting for a deal like this. Once you experience the superior flush of a Japanese toilet, it is hard to go back. Sucks that the seats are often not included and cost $40 - $50.

Agreed regarding the seats. This toilet with the seat was available for only $30 more for a bit, but that deal is expired.

The not included seat is a great excuse to get a bidet. I got the tacked-on hybrid flush version of this toilet for 1.2/1.6 gpf from Home Depot (CA compliant), slapped a bidet on it, was altogether my most satisfying purchase of 2021. I am very obsessed with the performance of the Toto, which is a black hole for excrement. As for the toilet itself, depending on your diet, bits of soft stool can dangle and latch near the rim touching the water top after flushing since the water level is low. Hard stool won't really be an issue. I keep a dedicated cheap water spray bottle and loosen the nozzle so it's a jet to shoot the specs of turd loose since I really don't want to keep cleaning turd off a brush. It's possible someone in the house scraped the coating off with a hard brush so YMMV. The flap's also mucked after a year I have to wiggle it a few times for the tank to fill but I'll get that repaired eventually. Outside of that, does it flush? Yes it does.

Gunk does build up in the two slots where the water shoots out from on the Drake. Wasn't a fan of the design on this one. I also had another toto that had a flush basic design. I liked that one better because it easier to clean. Also, Totos are very loud flush but it's because they have a ton of power. That said, my kids have managed to produce clogs with just toilet paper.

I moved to a new house and have not really considered switching out the toilets unless I have to at this point. I hopped on the bidet train and have been eyeing the all-in-one toto washlets if I do have to replace any in the future.
