Good deal, just FYI it is not compatible with Windows 11 with the 6500 processor.

Also TPM 1.2. If it still works you can disable the CPU and TPM check and install Windows 11 from disc or USB drive.

Throw a M.2 or SATA SSD in and it's pretty snappy. No built-in wireless though.

It looks like this has (2) displayports and (1) HDMI. I think these dp's would be able to do 4k@60hz?
looks like dp 1.2 so probably, but you'd need active dp>hdmi that advertises this capability if you want to push to consumer display without dp. I don't think 6th gen had DRM so no 4k streaming from certain services like netflix I think. I have a i5-6500t tiny that I played around with and I think I eventually just dropped back down to 4k30 because of performance issues. Honestly the best reason to go with sff over tiny/micro/mff is the ability to add dedicated graphics. If you aren't considering that then just go with a tiny. I'm a big proponent of them since you can just strap them to the back of a TV. I think 7th gen intel had some added 4k accommodations so at least that, and 8th gen if you want the least issues moving win11.

This Ram is server ram and does not work in this optiplex. You need unbuffered, non ECC sticks.
Optiplex 5050 is non-ECC. Why post nonsense?
Huh??

What's the minimum processor to be compatible with Windows 11? Any suggestion what is the best value or cheapest SFF desktop pc that is compatible with Win 11?
I just need it to watch online movie or YouTube on my TV.
Only 8th generation and above is officially supported in Windows 11.

this would be good enough as a Plex server, correct?
Yes, good for Plex.
If you're interested in Hardware Transcoding and pay/paid for that feature, you could invest in a Quadro P400 ($40-60 on eBay) low profile graphics card later down the line.

One quick google search of "optiplex 5050 sff ram compatibility" will clear that right up. Non-ECC.

Pretty high running cost for always running box (NAS/Plex): https://www.intel.com/content/www...tions.html

- 65Watt TDP.

Personally, I would look for something 10W or less.

How many 3.5mm hard drives can you fit in this thing, if any?

It comes with a 256GB SSD probably SATA. Right? It does have a M.2 port. https://www.dell.com/support/manu...lang=en-us

I just purchased a Micro version of this a week ago from Dell direct for my Mother. It looks new inside and out and She loves it. The micro came with m.2 ssd and had 1 8gb stick and 1 empty slot, it was ddr4 laptop ram, but this one maybe different. PS> The MFF or micro version is about the same footprint as a mouse pad and about 3" thick. Boots up in just a few seconds and does great for surfing the net, Word / excel and other everyday tasks.

I have a few 7050 towers. Does have m.2. I am able to boot from NVME without modification or workaround like clover.
Actually— I am using an m.2 adapter in PCIe slot for some reason but I think since the bios supports nvme boot you should be ok

I see these comments all the time. How? My system chugs with just a couple streams. Granted it's only a 1660 ti but I have all kinds of issues with just two simultaneous transcodes.
