Most Vise grip jaws at the tip have a flat surface and no teeth. The jaws of these pliers have a bit of a "radius" in the jaw with fine teeth. They absolutely do a better job. I've used vamplies (same as engineer) to extract a few screws. It's no contest.

Could have definitely used this when I was changing out my toilet tank seals. The screws were so corroded I had to dig deep into the usual bag of tricks: vice grips, impact wrench, and AeroKroil. Got the job done but these would have saved me at least an hour, hunched over my disassembled toilet cursing the metallurgists at Kohler.
