I have the Duet with just 4gb and if you open android apps it gets noticeably slower with only .4 gb memory available. Close the android app and you have 1.4 gb memory available. Only android app that is a must have for general consumption is youtube the gestures are great on a tablet, hard to hit the targets on the youtube web app.

Staying on web pages only and not using any android apps it is generally snappy on 4gb. No slowdowns for like 10 tabs or so. I think for a new purchase you should really shoot for 8gb though.

I was wondering if these would be good for kids around 5, 7 years old? Also, av on chromebooks or how do you lock your kids down, familiar with windows side...not so much a chromebook.

8 gb ram is my minimum for Chome OS. My time is worth a faster processor and my eyes need a better display. I don't need a kiddybook but others might.

Now why can't we have $99 ARM based tablets that are 11.6 inches

BTW some chromebooks can run some Android apps but ARM cpu is going to give you way more compatibility.

Thanks for all the input! After looking at the comments and everything else, I got an excellent condition open box Lenovo from Best Buy.... Unfortunately there were out of the brand new... but it saved me a few more dollars.
