4TB is a little higher than double ($330), but interesting to me.
Does anyone have experience with the hardware encryption? I just bought a SanDisk 2TB, but I like this encryption thing, may pick this up too.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

To be clear this is an SSD not HDD. Calling it "hard drive" in the title is misleading…though great price thanks for posting!

SanDisk and WD are the same companies, and this review suggests that aside from the external enclosure, the 1TB version of drives are identical. Not sure if newer iterations have been released since 2020.

Thats kinda splitting hairs as OP said hard drive not hdd. I agree ssd is not a hdd, but it could fall under the 'hard drive' category:
Types of Hard Drives
Currently, hard drives are divided into 4 major types:

Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment (PATA)
Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA)
Small Computer System Interface (SCSI)
Solid State Drive (SSD)

Hard drive is short for HDD. It is misleading.

Thank you for clarifying. I only clicked to see if someone was on crack or if this really was a very high price for a HDD. SSD makes much more sense.

Nice price, but Amazon also has multiple SanDisk and Crucial external SSDs for $150 and under, at least.

That is the most expensive portable HDD nowadays. Looks like the poster didn't even know the difference between ssd and hdd.

That's not splitting hairs at all. Hard drive = HDD. The linked listings don't call these hard drives. No one calls an SSD a HDD, and no one posts SSDs here and lists them as HDDs. Not sure where you're cutting and pasting from, but the interface technology is irrelevant to whether an SSD is a HDD. And it's 2022, no one is using PATA hard drives and you completely missed NVMe/PCI express drives.

Sure they coulda specified SSD as the type of hard drive, but funny to see people get so twisted up about it. I knew what they meant 🤷 ♂️

I didn't, my initial thought was that this was a very overpriced HDD, but once i saw it was an SSD, made sense

Not everyone is as intelligent as you "Izzysauce" I figured that too but, labeling things correctly helps others...

Same. Only reason I clicked on this post was to see what household chores this hdd was gonna do for me at that price. Ssd is a lot more reasonable.
