I have called the CSR costumer care to explore about the retention offer. The representative gave me $150 statement credit. It may be worth to give a call if you have your annual fee ($550) due now!

For those who got retention credits, did you use your cc a lot or do you have a lot of points or little points left on the card?

Good luck with this. It's definitely YMMV. Called them the last time they were doing this and they said no retention credit available for me. So instead of keeping it or cancelling it I converted the card to a freedom and then applied for the Sapphire Preferred, and they gave me $1,000 in points for my trouble after I met the minimum spend within 3 months. Still, it's worth calling, because if it's on your account it's free money.

I got the CSR annual fee waived/discounted to $300 for the last 3+ years since they raised the fee to $550 from $450, but Chase would not budge this year, so I'm going to cancel it as I had it since 2017 when they introduced the CSR card. I still come out $300 ahead as Chase already gave me $300 travel credit.

$550 AF

$300 travel credit
$180 Instacart credits
$99 instacart Plus membership
$96 dashpass membership
$60 doordash credits

That's $735 a year in value vs the $550 fee, and that's before you get to the value of being able to transfer UR to airlines/Hyatt, or the 50% portal bonus, or the Priority pass that still includes $56 per visit for 2 to restaurants on top of the airport lounge access.

THAT said- the instacart stuff is allegedly ending after July and I think the doordash credit in December... so without those (and assuming nothing replaces them) the value proposition will be a bit less clear cut.

Yep, I agree! $100 renewal (after deducting travel credit) for X's 20k miles pays for itself. I don't care for the total ripoff Instacart offers, either. Doodrdash is another marked-up BS and Lyft doesn't matter since I use it for business paid for my employer.

The best part of X is the Priority Pass extensions, as they gave the cards with no fees (vs. CSR $300 annual) to wife and 2 daughters to enjoy PP lounges especially international airports. X lounge in Dallas is about as nice as CSR lunge in Boston and new one in Denver is nice (didn't go inside as grabbed some food due to tight connection last month).

Instacart markups are determined by the store, not instacart. Some grocery stores don't mark up at all- so I just stick to those.

In which case I'm paying about 5 bucks to save myself half an hour not going out to a store, shopping, then driving back home with my stuff- and instead having it delivered to my front door.

I'd be doing that regardless of having credits, since saving half an hour for 5 bucks is a very slick deal. Getting $15 off the actual groceries each month is a nice added perk.

The only thing you need to "keep up" with is ordering groceries from IC at least once a month- which I routinely do anyway.

In contrast the CSR gets you $56 for two in restaurant credits at a couple dozen airports, that the Cap One version of PP does not.

(both Amex and Cap One dropped the restaurant benefit a while back).

To be clear- Venture X is still at worst break-even for holding it... (though they've made the travel credit a bit harder to use recently)--- but CSR is still pretty easy to actually be profitable on--- at least until they potentially drop the IC and DD credits late this year if they don't replace them with something.

I've got multiple high-AF cards because there's multiple ones that can be easily break even or profitable.... CSR certainly fits that bill... The Hilton Aspire does too, and the Citi Prestige if you can make decent use of 4th night free... Venture X is nearer a break even card, and some are harder to justify the fees on (the highest end Marriott one is tough with the increased AF for example unless you get a LOT of value out of the one FNC.... and the Amex Plat is near impossible to justify anymore, doubly so with no more free guests in the centurion lounges)

I told the CSR rep on the phone in the past 3+ years that I was considering dropping the CSR card due to the high cost and asked what the retention offer is for a Chase customer in good standing and holder since 2017 when it was introduced. I may have mentioned Cap One X card in the past. CSR would offer it for $300, meaning zero, since getting the $300 travel credit is easy. But not last week, so I plan to cancel my card at the end of Feb. Who knows, maybe CSR might offer it for $300 again, but I already got a $300 travel credit for 2024, so I'm still ahead by $300—anyway, keeping X card instead.

That said, the PP restaurant credit is nice, and I use it all the time, especially at my home airport SFO, but I can live without it.

I think Instacart plus membership has ended as it was only for 1 year ... only $15 credits are remaining ...

Where do you see the plus membership for 2024?
