Now with over 10 million copies sold, The Mistborn Series has the thrills of a heist story, the twistiness of political intrigue, and the epic scale of a landmark fantasy saga.

The impossible has been accomplished. The Lord Ruler -- the man who claimed to be god incarnate and brutally ruled the world for a thousand years -- has been vanquished. But Kelsier, the hero who masterminded that triumph, is dead too, and now the awesome task of building a new world has been left to his young protégé, Vin, the former street urchin who is now the most powerful Mistborn in the land, and to the idealistic young nobleman she loves.

As Kelsier's protégé and slayer of the Lord Ruler she is now venerated by a budding new religion, a distinction that makes her intensely uncomfortable. Even more worrying, the mists have begun behaving strangely since the Lord Ruler died, and seem to harbor a strange vaporous entity that haunts her.

Stopping assassins may keep Vin's Mistborn skills sharp, but it's the least of her problems. Luthadel, the largest city of the former empire, doesn't run itself, and Vin and the other members of Kelsier's crew, who lead the revolution, must learn a whole new set of practical and political skills to help. It certainly won't get easier with three armies – one of them composed of ferocious giants – now vying to conquer the city, and no sign of the Lord Ruler's hidden cache of atium, the rarest and most powerful allomantic metal.

As the siege of Luthadel tightens, an ancient legend seems to offer a glimmer of hope. But even if it really exists, no one knows where to find the Well of Ascension or what manner of power it bestows.

At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Kind of fun books. Almost done with the lost metal. Sanderson is prolific. I don't love his prose, and his characterization is just ok, but he does create interesting plots, and sometimes the magic is interesting if you can get past the tedium. The magic "system" Tends to be a bit less tedious in the mistborn series. Know that this is the second book. First is the final empire.

If you're not familiar with Sanderson, he's extremely prolific. He's just published a new book in the series and set to release at least three books next year set in a broader universe.for 13 already published ones.

Probably want to pick up "The Final Empire" first.

I enjoyed the theme of this book and the characters that returned from Mist born. I also enjoyed some of the newer characters and felt they added to the story.

Quote from caotico :
I don't love his prose
I tended to cringe at two repeated habits: re-explaining how the metals worked when context was sufficient, and his endless use of the word "dampened" in the meaning of "damped" -- unless it was an intentional pun since it is the Mistborn series. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

That said... I'm on the fourth book now so I'm enjoying it all well enough to continue reading. Smilie

When you said endless use of the word... I thought you were going to say sinuous. I love his books but cannot stand how often he says sinew or sinuous or some form of the word.

Yeah, I'm just finishing up the lost metal. What bugs me are little ticks like having the characters reflect in their internal dialogue that something is "kinda weird." you can't argue with his success though.

He's successful, an objectively good author, and prolific. That's rare.

$3 for this book is a great deal.

I've read the series and liked it, can anyone recommend something similar that they liked more?

Literally on the last like 50 pages of the 3rd book of the Stormlight Archive from Brandon Sanderson. Pretty good.

I really like Michael J. Sullivan. He has sequels and prequels that are all good. Start with theft of swords. Great audiobook too.

I am halfway through the second book in the Red Rising series and it's absolutely fantastic. I just finished the first Mistborn trilogy last week and as much as I loved it, I almost might like Red Rising more.... maybe?
