It's worth noting those ratings are for your total weight including base weight, clothing, tools, and any load you might be carrying or are putting on the ladder (storing on the shelf, hanging off the rungs etc) or if you have a helper that might have to hop on the ladder to hand something up to you. As I stated before for home owner use it might not seem important but if you're ever hauling shingles or totes or some heavy object that's when you start running into trouble. Obviously the higher the weight rating the heavier the ladder usually becomes (not always) so it's a balancing act on finding what's right for you.
My advice is while fully dressed go stand on a scale and then round up to the next tenth pound (151lbs becomes 160lbs) and then add on 75lbs as that's about all most people will ever attempt to truck up or down a ladder as a home owner and that usually is the minimum rating I'd tell people to get. I prefer to have I or IA for anything over five feet, low step ladders as long as you are aware of the lower rating and don't try and cheat it you can get away with lighter duty stuff.
It might seem pointless but be safe, it takes very little to get seriously hurt if you land on your head. Don't try and save a buck when it comes to your personal safety, it's a lot cheaper to spend a few bucks more for a higher rated ladder than it is to pay the bills for a ER visit.

I'm no ladder expert, but these are both rates for the same weight and have the same 1A rating. Maybe just different color? In any case, the one I posted is $60 and is ideal for residential use.

And if I do need a type 1A, I'll just borrow my neighbor's 8 footer.
The blue one? Rated for 250lbs
