the side of the lock with the batteries is probably not made to be used outside so you "can" use it, but probably should not.

I got one of these last summer for $17. It is still working fine on the original set of batteries.

If the gate is set up with a standard house, deadbolt lock, yes. Or if you know and have a fabrication shop, but I'm guessing, if you're asking, you don't have one of those.

no need for a fabrication shop. a 2 1/8 hole saw bit and a 1" spade bit will suffice for any deadbolt installation.

Got a kwikset version installed recently (non-"smart") and it was a good decision. Now my young adult "child" can come and go without a key they will loose.

Many gates are not built like doors - Where a whole saw & paddle bit would be all you need for installation.

Just take both to a locksmith, they should be able to retumble them.

Has it's pluses and minuses. Your able to set them up so they automatically lock behind you. Good for security.
Downside is as the enter bottom gets pressed over and over it dies. Expect to get maybe 5 years out of them if code is used daily.

If your a landlord, setup one time use codes, these locks allow for that, planning ahead for a lock out.... When you get the call, give them the code. Charge what you think is fair for the planning and convince, lock smith run quite a bit more.
Otherwise, don't give codes so the bottoms aren't run ragged... they were for emergencies and your convenience

Thoughts on quality? I'm looking to replace my august lock that i hate with something that's reliable lol.

There's nothing like having to take a crap and your august lock wont recognize your Bluetooth or WIFI connect while you sit there waiting on the app to do something for 30-45 seconds.

Only problem i see with this style is the buttons you press all the time will eventually rub off correct?

Not worth more than that. I have the Schlage BE365, have had it in my last 3 homes. That thing does not reduce by much, am sure for a reason.
