It's also good for someone switching over from guitar. I didn't have any problems with it sounding "limp and flappy". It sounds the same as a full sized bass and I even play in drop D, so I'm not sure what "detuning" problems you're having.
Really, short scale basses have been used by Paul McCartney, Jack Bruce, Bill Wyman, Plil Lesh and a lot of others. I own one of these and its a fine bass for adults not just children. I also have a Fender Precision (full scale). I enjoy playing both of them
Yeah, it's a super deal and not a bad instrument. Especially good for people with smaller hands or those guitarists who are interested in playing bass (which in my experience is a smart move).

Lots of small amps have been on sale, such as the Rumble 25 (search SD for links).

Kinda want to get into this. Anyone with any suggestions for a good cheap amp to go along with this?
Paired this with Fender Rumble 15 and sounds loud and big enough at home. The Rumble 25 was on sale recently on Black Friday. I initially bought a Ibanez bass amp to match, returned it to Adorama for too much buzz

I don't know how Ibanez still makes guitars for 1990s prices. Really amazing.

Is the purple darker than the photo in adorama? I've seen some other photos online that show it to be quite a bit darker than the product photo on here and the Ibanez site.
I found a guy working on one via youtube if you want to see the color that way. I was wondering the same because I love purple in general.

Damn, this is a great deal, but I already have one from the previous deal mentioned above. What would I do with a second one?

Nice price for a nice little bass. Bought one a few weeks back for my son to learn bass on. It's still kinda big but manageable for him. As a guitarist for me, it's fun as hell to play. I got a slightly blemished b stock for $135, so this is a way better deal.

This was my kid's primary electric bass for ages 7 through 14 with 5 years of heavy band use and up until after he was at a full size upright bass. It's STILL never had a problem and still plays like new. I love how easily it plays and it's pretty decent, tone-wise, too. We finally upgraded to a wonderful active 5-string Yamaha and the tonal difference is significant, but it's an $800 bass and has already needed 2 fixes (easy things though). In other words, get the Ibanez if you are even slightly inclined to!

For those not familiar with this bass or some the terminology, keep in mind it is not a full sized bass. It's a 3/4 scale size meaning really good for children or people with small hands, not recommended for average adults really. They also sound kind of limp and flappy when plugged up And horrible if you detune it any lower.

It's a great deal and bass for someone who has just started learning for sure though. It really doesn't have any specs I can find on the sale page. So...

Specs:
https://www.ibanez.com/usa/produc...20_03.html [ibanez.com]

Here's a size comparison...
the fret spacing is very similar to a guitar, an adult can play it fine unless they are a giant and cant even play normal guitars. Its not really a 3/4 scale, its a 28" scale

The Ibanez is hands down if better build quality than that Mitchell and works the extra $30. The Mitchell pickup I played and hotter pickups but you could feel the lack of quality including fret sprout on the Mitchell. The Mitchell is also very heavy for a short scale, and the neck is very thick. I will say the Mitchell was better than I expected but the Ibanez is made far better and an easy choice if you handle both of them.

Thank you. That purple looks nice in the video. I ordered the black yesterday because the blue and purple both look brighter than I wanted in the product photos, but they both look really good (darker) in user reviews and other photos online, so I'm second guessing my decision.

Good to know. I guess I was confused by the 4.3/5 review rating for the Mitchell. Also, I own the Ibanez short scale and I love it. Mine's in walnut and I call her "Lil' Nutty".

My daughter's first bass when she was 7. Also had a 5 string version that had jazz bass pickups and 5 string that had a pbass pickup (I think that one was a Dean). All 3 were fantastic, especially for the price! If you like narrow string spacing, you'll love these bass guitars!

$129 is a killer deal on this surprisingly excellent bass. When I bought my daughter's bass guitars, they were $179 for the 4 string and $199 for the 5's.
