This is a fantastic device. I've used many different streaming devices and this model does a great job with HDR, Dolby Vision, and has a great selection of apps. Also, the remote headphone jack and voice capabilities are awesome.
I have all models of Roku. This one is also snappier/quicker to respond. That's a big deal to me. I'd only buy the models with volume control on the remote as well. Big convenience.

The remote finder function is a feature exclusive to the Roku Voice Remote Pro, which you theoretically could buy for a Roku model that didn't come with one. They retail for $30.

One better option would be to buy the Roku Ultra, which includes the remote. Costco has a two-pack (1x Roku Ultra 4K and 1x Roku Stick 4K) that would include one remote with the feature and one without, all for $90.

There is other remotes with the remote finder.

My Roku Ultra 4660 had a remote with remote finder. If you want to know remote model, it is RC-AL4. I do not use this remote that much since it does not have mute button.

Two televisions in my home have both Roku ultras and an Apple TV 4K connected to them
An LG G1 OLED and a Samsung QN90a

I absolutely dont think I can see any difference in picture quality switching between the two on either TV.However, I have had to restart the Rokus a few times over the last year due to either flickering picture or a popping sound in the audio. I have only had to restart the Apple TV once
All I know is something is way off on my apple tv and I can't think of any defect that would make the picture different, It's really weird and washed out, not just slight difference.

And of course jumping through hoops on apple's site in CASE it's defective, which I doubt. I bet you anything they won't even replace it because I bought it over 1 year ago, but they did not SHIP it until less than 1 year ago. Someone said apple goes by purchase date, which would be pathetic when it didn't ship for weeks.

This sounds like TV and device not agreeing properly on HDR settings.

Try SDR setting in Apple TV output, or adjust HDR settings on your TV.

I was already using SDR because it's on a 1080p oled. I am puzzled what could be going on because it just doesn't make sense to me for it to be worse than the roku picture with how everyone talks good about the apple.

If I REALLY am desperate, I can use my meters and calibrate a tv mode specifically for the apple. Or actually even then i don't know if i can because the apple tv would need an app that has slides for it... where I can tell where the issues are.

That reminds me too, though, I have sued it on 2 tvs, an oled and plasma and on both of them it had looked worse than the roku. I could try the apple tv calibration feature, but then it's definitely going to be inaccurate since an actual tv calibration would be much better.

Hmm
Can you choose color range on TV? Full range vs reduced range can be mis-negotiated and would wash out whites and crush blacks.

Just a thought. Good Luck.

yeah, I did all of that. Thatw as my first guess was smething was wrong there, but as I change them around it doesn't seem to be a problem there.

If it weren't such a headache to activate a device, I'd buy another and see if it looks the same, but now I am down to 1 year since the shipping date so no time. I messed up and wasted money I guess, even if it turns out it's defective somehow.

And the overall experience of apple tv is so nice too so I wish it would look the same. Frown If you saw it here, you'd see how different it is where basically on the apple tv everything is sort of flat and on the roku it looks almost 3d, which usually has to do with calibration.

You might need to look at this page: https://developer.roku.com/docs/s...ardware.md

It shows the devices that is still supported and not supported.
Officially mine are on the updatable/supported list (Premier 3920x), but both were so laggy that they were unusable when I upgraded my router. I tried factory reset a couple of different ways, I tried updating and one updated and the other just froze up in the update process and refused to complete. Basically I did everything and they just effectively quit working. I bought new units (ie 2022 Ultra and Streaming Stick) and both worked perfectly from the get go with no issues. I don't know if I just ended up with 2 bad units or what, but I will definitely be mindful of updated hardware in the future.

Is this deal dead?

It looks like it from the website. But I know the Wal-Marts around here had a lot of these left over from Black Friday. Just wondering if their still being sold for $30 at the store?

Have you run into the well documented and most common "purple screen of death" HDCP error while using the Roku?

I started with Roku from their Roku2 version. Each upgraded model over time rendered the HDCP error at random. I switched out cables, using the best that monoprice offered, tried different hdmi ports but still no luck. The fix was to power down the roku and have it go through a reboot.

Last year, out of frustration, I purchased Apple TV 4K model. So, same tv, same cable, no more HDCP issue. Over time, i now have replaced all my Rokus with Apple TV streamers. I do miss the roku simplicity but have gotten used to Apple TV.

This is just a perspective, not a bash of roku. If you plan to get one, just be aware of this HDCP bug.
Hmm, I tried Apple TV, don't know what models, 2 of them, had nothing but problems, couldn't even stream movies I own on Itunes, it would tell me to try later, *after I'd been watching for half hour or so it would just stop and say unavailable or something, they'd stream to my phone perfect, upgraded once and still had issue, and it's not my internet, all my Roku's I've had before and after I tried Apple TV never had problems with

Of course I waited and didn't get this when it was mentioned here and now it's $80... And worried the 4k stick won't be fast enough.

Seems like it. I was in Walmart for something else and remembered this deal. Brickseek only told me No Results in the Area but I happened to see one on the shelf with a tag that said $80. I scanned the barcode with my app and it showed $45 if purchased online so I was hoping in-store it would ring up at that or even $30 but it rang up at $80
