I'd get this. I sent two kids off to college with Grams, and ones who aren't particularly kind to their hardware. They're practically bulletproof, extremely lightweight and the performance is outstanding. Combine that with the extended Costco warranty and you can't go wrong. Honestly, not sure what you'd need the extra performance for, aside from some heavier duty gaming.
After defending @contractcooker in an earlier reply, I'll respectfully disagree on this point - Even if you get better hardware, longer life, and a smoother experience with a Mac, and even if the cost were equivalent (which it typically isn't), it doesn't mean that a Mac is a better option for "most people."
The Mac would be better *except* for those who are not in the Apple ecosystem, or are just accustomed to Windows, or who own Windows software or games, or otherwise need it for work, or... probably most people 😅
That's the thing about the gram. It doesn't feel premium because it uses magnesium alloy to keep the weight down. It flexes like plastic but don't let that deceive you. It is as strong as any metal. So it depends on what matters to you. Lightweight even though it is perceived as a cheaper build quality but it's not at all or heavy aluminum with no flex.

Man, I got the HP pavilion (link below, 15.6" FHD touch, 16gb, 512gb, i7-1255u, MX550) at Costco a few weeks back, but was looking for the gram. Would it be worth it to return the HP and grab the gram?

Edit: HP was $699 also, so price is comparable

this and the ideapad 5 pro 14" r5 6600hs for $510 after tax. Which one should I get if I prefer good battery life and lightweight? Is it worth almost 300 for 80wh instead of 56wh on ideapad and 1lbs lighter?

Trying to find a nice lightweight laptop for my son for college. Was leaning towards this from BestBuy - https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sams...Id=6501593. Is that Samsung worth the extra $450 for mostly school work, and occasional games? Appreciate any input/thoughts

So many great, helpful responses to my question…much appreciated! Clearly there is consensus that the Gram is the best bang for the buck between the two.

I bought the Samsung Pro 2 360 and out of the box the fan was making a really bad noise.

Seems like a really good deal as well. Needing larger screen and touchscreen though.

Split the difference and go REAL light haha! https://www.costco.com/acer-swift...56371.html

This is a newly released laptop so not too much info out there. But the few reviews are very positive. Especially the screen. Speakers kind of stink is the biggest knock.

Battery life isn't as good as the Gram, but it's still solid. OLED weazes the juice.

Better specs but the LG weighs a full pound less. Whether it's a better deal depends on which you value more.

I used three LG gram models and had positive experiences with them.
The one with 11th generation Intel CPU had USB connection problems, but the connection problem were solved for the 12th generation models. This one uses Intel 12th gen, so it is an excellent deal.

If I had not shifted to MacBook Pro for work, I would give LG gram a priority over other laptops for its light weight.

I got this at $800 3 weeks ago when Costco had it on sale. Love the laptop, such an amazing deal and fits my needs. Love seeing this price drop, time for an adjustment.

This is a great deal for Costco members. Not a costco member myself but the price + extended warranty makes this a no brainier if it is in your price range.
