Warning: caulk sounds similar to a potty word. This will be low hanging fruit for the amateur comedians of SD. Brace yourself for the avalanche of tired caulk puns to follow.
Frankly, I'm sad there are only two so far. Maybe it's hard to go a second round this fast from the last time. 🤷

Brand recommendations?
If you are going to the big box stores, stick with Mapei caulk or Polyblend caulk ("Custom" Products is full name). 100% commercial grade silicone, can get many colors too

If you are going to a local tile store, it's whatever they carry and whatever they carry is good.

The stuff will remain flexible for many many years, won't yellow out, and won't get mold. By the time you will need to re-caulk it will be time to re-do the bathroom. I do want to include a warning though. you need to thoroughly prep the surface. Remove ALL old caulk including residue using a glass or tile scraper (expect to go through more than 1 blade just for a shower sometimes so have spares on hand), fully clean the area per the recommendations on the tube,, let it dry. Then apply per the instructions on the tube. Note, the commercial stuff requires a FULL 24 HRS CURE before using the shower/tub. Do not expose it to water for a full 24 hrs

Is this something that will wear out during a renovation of a kitchen and 2 bathrooms? Should I buy more than 1?
They will break where the metal "blade" is attached to the plastic using a hot press. There are some with replaceable blades and metal screws attaching them to the handle.

Which name brand?
I don't recall, at the moment. It was red, and looked similar to this tool.

I own one of these, can never get that perfect look with it, always resort back to using my finger (I'm OCD)
I hate using my finger with caulk but agree, was hoping this would be a good solution

$3 each. Get 3 for $9. Won't hurt. Good chance you'll lose 1

Didn't work well for me. Reverted back to scraper & pointer to apply.

once you get the hang of using your finger and a wet edge, you'll realize these tools are stupid
even for caulk removal, you are better off using a glass scraper. chances are if you are removing caulk, it's so old that it's so hardened that the plastic scraper won't work and neither will the metal scooper.

also another tip, don't use that shit caulk found in the caulk aisle in home depot. even the most expensive caulk they have from DAP or that GE Silicone II is junk compared to the caulk sold at tile stores. if you must go to home depot, head to the tile aisle and use that caulk. it's infinitely better and will last a hell of a lot longer

i am just sharing my experience, as someone who has re-caulked multiple bathrooms in all of my rentals over the years.
would you share some of the brand and pictures of the caulk you're talking about.

It depends on what your caulking. For paint projects, a latex caulk works better with faster dry time, easier clean up and better paint adhesion. Alex plus found in the caulk isle is just fine for this.

thanks. this stuff correct?

commercial 100% silicone sealant @ 20$ a tube from customs building products.

how do you save a used tube to use later.
because im sure not gonna use up the whole tube at 1 go.

thanks, just found out there s crack in the corner of my brand new shower, after about 30 showers, i bent down to clean the tiles and saw thin crack of about 7" long. and went researching why its cracking (which seems fairly normal). i dont think the contractor apply silicone to the corners edges

I usually put a #10 x 4" screw that I can find on my worksites. If you don't have one handy find something similar bc it's the silicone by the tip that dries first. The screw method usually allows me to yank out the silicone that has hardened. Also, don't keep the tube outside or in a place with extreme temps. Hope that helps.
