The amp is a bit of a weak point for this system. But easy to expand with separate amps.

3 years. Being open box doesn't change the warranty. Only refurbished products typically have less warranty. For me $250 was a significant amount to save for only being open box. Should still be in brand new condition.

While I agree, most people do not listen at reference level and with reasonably sensitive speakers, even 1 watt can sound fairly loud. Denon and Marantz are the same.
Use the receiver for decoding and for at least surround / height channels and if needed, get a powerful three channel amp for the LRC.

No. I'm not saying they're underpowered. Have you read the test results? These AVR's have issues with the amps not present in the compatible Denon/Marantz/Yamaha models.

I have to admit that I don't frequent ASR, more AVS and haven't purchased a receiver in years. I have a few old Denon that ive used as front end and for surrounds and use separates, including an old school Carver 7 channel amp for my main listening area (for all the advantages and disadvantages of separates). A quick look at that site didn't seem too scary though. I must have missed the threads you are referring to.

I believe this was released at $1399 this year. According to the 3 C's average price is $1462.24, so that tracks. Either way, open box SHOULD mean a brand new return, so this is a good deal. It's also worth taking into account this is sometimes hard to find.

The inclusion of Dirac room correction software is what separates this receiver from the rest in this price range. I've used more room correction software than the average person, as I've owned a wide variety of receivers--ARC, Audyssey/xt/32, Dirac, YPAO, homebrew REW... Using Dirac with a microphone connected to my laptop, I could customize the response curves to my liking the most.

FWIW I got acquainted with Dirac on my old AudioControl unit which was about $6k. That is why this Onyko tx-rz50 is a big deal (or so it is up to you to decide). Dirac at this price used to not be a thing. I'll also say I'm currently using Audyssey multeq xt32 and don't miss Dirac! The new app made it 100% better IMO because I can now create a house curve just like I could with Dirac.

Does one room correction software sound better than the other? I don't know. All I can comment on is the customizability of each...and in that department, Dirac is on top, with Audyssey multeq xt32 (and probably soon others) right behind it. Hope this helped clarify something for someone!

noob question. where would you connect the dolby atmos speaker to?
is it surround or surround back? or should i turn off dolby and set as surround only?
