Remote is IR, each strip and each light bar has its own IR receiver so all 4 can be controlled individually if you point the remote directly at each unit. I bought these for my Son's birthday recently and they work fine, had one issue with one of the light bars but power cycling it seemed to fix the issue of it not responding to the remote. The light bars are very flimsy and almost fall over with the weight of the USB cable alone but they can be mounted or screwed down. Also you need 3 USB ports to power all 4 lights.

Colors were not very good/vibrant. Using the remote, pointing directly at the light bars I couldn't get it them change. Maybe mine came damaged since there was a slight rattle inside.

Due to the hassle with controlling each light separately, needing 3 USB ports to power and the color quality I am going to return them.

Yes, each unit has its own USB connector for power, it does come with one USB splitter for the 2 light bars but each light bar has its own independent IR control.

I doubt it, I have them adhered onto the back of my desk so I can't say with full certainty but if you remove it, go slowly and you should be fine.
