I picked these up at Home Depot when on sale and I can confirm the Voltage Protection Rating is L-N 330V, L-G 400V and N-G 400V (it's engraved/molded into the plastic on the back of the power strip). Model # is P12U2

This is good right? My light research says good ones should not surpass 400V.

I prefer the Amazon basics one… and it's $16 now for the 8 outlet. The clamping voltage is L-N 330V, L-G 400V, N-G 400V.

Limited-time deal: Amazon Basics 8-Outlet Power Strip Surge Protector, 4,500 Joule - 6-Foot Cord, Black/Green https://a.co/d/528M5ZJ

Or you break a piece of expensive electronic equipment. I lost a $1500 stereo receiver to a surge… and it was plugged into a cheap surge protector at the time. Luckily my TV and Xbox on the same surge protector survived.

I learn so much on here. Going to check out all my strips and replace any that allow too much voltage to pass.

I guess APC don't design their consumer stuff anymore. This looks like a whitebox rebadged unit from
https://www.power-tech.com.tw ... also reviews states that clamping voltage on new unit is 400 / 500+ and not 330V.
How do you know it's not the opposite? That these brands aren't using rebadged APCs. This same model is rebadged as Monoprice and Amazon Basics. I'm pretty sure APC makes this and lets other companies reuse them with their logo. Also, it's been proven that this APC has clamping voltage of 330V. I think the ones complaining bought the smaller 8 outlet one which has the 400-500-500 rating. Most review indicate otherwise. I have the AmazonBasics version of this and I can confirm it has a clamping voltage of 330V.

I see this has the green light like the Amazon one.

Does anyone have a decent alternative for one with not a bright light?

Has anyone had good success blocking out the light?

From Amazon reviews:
"as previously noted, the older models had 330v clamping voltage, the newer ones all have 400/500/500v ratings."

The answers seem to be all over the place, though. I saw many answers/reviews in the Amazon reviews and Q&A that also report a higher clamp voltage as you stated. There is also a reviewer that answered on 6/5/22 that says "The clamping voltage for this APC unit are lower now. It's 330-400-400 now. I just bought it last week and that's how it's marked on mine."

Seems as though different batches seem to have different clamping voltages.

The light complaint is one reason I'm waiting for another deal. There should be an option to turn it off.

I have a few of the APC variants that I bought a few years ago. The lights don't bother me much, but they really are pretty bright. I've seen a lot of people say they used electrical tape to cover it up. Where I'm using them, the light doesn't bother me, though. I don't know whose bright idea it was to design these things this way. (see what I did there?)

Beware that the reviews on this thing say that it glows green very brightly, enough to light up a room at night, and there is no easy way to get rid of the green light short of covering the whole end of the thing (not just one LED) with electrical tape.

I was going to pick one up for the 65" LG C1 bedroom TV I have on order from Amazon, but I really don't like a nightlight in the bedroom. Will probably get an Anker or one of the better looking 4000J Chinese ones with lots of MOVs instead.

I recommend you don't buy this for a bedroom. Your instincts about that are right. I own this and it's in a living room. I think the green light is actually pretty cool because I have it sitting behind the TV and it gives a nice green hue. I cannot imagine enjoying that light while I'm trying to sleep.

However, don't buy Anker or the no name Chinese surge protectors. Anker is a good company but their surge protectors aren't even certified as surge protectors. I would not buy something like that. With the no name Chinese brands, you don't even have the backing of a legit company like Anker and on top of that their surge protection claims could be dubious. There is no way of knowing how well they actually work.

I recommend sticking with well known brands like Tripp Lite, Belkin, or APC. They also usually offer some kind of equipment warranty which gives you more peace of mind.
