I'm compelled to buy every cord and power strip I see that has a flat plug.

Fyi not for use outdoors. Mentioning this cause the green color might give that impression.

FWIW: I made the mistake of using a green colored power strip similar to this for outdoor lighting (because I'm closed minded and assumed all green power things were for outdoor use). Short circuited during the first rain, tripping a few breakers (not just one, idk how), and half of my house lost power while I was out of town. My fault for assuming and poor planning so check the label before going outside! Don't do what I did (says me at my second rodeo 😂)
Not going to lie, that's exactly what I thought when I saw this.

USB is 5V, so 5V * 2.4A = 12W
USB-A, yes 5V. But USB-C with PD has several supported voltage levels and the device and power supply negotiate which is to be delivered.

I've had these for a couple weeks now. I noticed a high pitched hum when using the USB port. The humming has stopped with one of the surge protectors after some use. The second hasn't been used much.

Even USB-A could be anywhere from 5-20V with "Quick Charge" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qui...e#Versions

But normally the cheapo chargers do not support QC

They were asking about the USB ports on the power strip in this post. Downvotes too? Sheesh. Last time I try to be helpful on here.

I edited my response and prepended "this" to make it completely clear that I meant this product's USB ports in particular. I hope that satisfies the pedants.

I didn't downvote you, I just wanted to clarify since USB is a very complex standard. Laypeople often take blanket statements like "USB is..." and then run with it, and might be confused when trying to apply that to other products.

Thank you for clarifying.

My grandfather always said he didn't know why we kids were so obsessed with branded products. When he was our age only employees wore cords with a brand on them.

With 450 joules, is that enough for 2 laptops and 2 phones at the same time?

The joule rating is more related to how much of a surge it can handle. The amp rating is more relevant to how much can be plugged in at once. Laptops and phones don't draw a lot of current, so plugging them all in at once shouldn't be a problem, as they should draw well under 13 amps total. However, the USB ports are low power and probably wouldn't work for laptops, so you'd need to plug their separate chargers into the main AC plugs. The USB ports would charge most phones fine (although not quickly).

However, if this is something you plan to regularly plug a lot of expensive electronics into, you may want to look for a little higher end surge protector.

It's unbranded, but with a 1 year warranty. Who's the warranty through if not the brand?
