the price is low but the Nest Hub is slow too.

Please have expectation this is not any faster than a 10 year old Nokia.

I think they are trying to to phase this out and replace it with a Pixel Tablet + dock. The driving idea is you might as well put that tablet that's sitting under your sofa to work.

This is pretty much the exact opposite situation I had. Had Alexa stuff for 2-3, got tired of the terrible recognition, slowness, and other random crap. Replaced it all with Google hubs and minis. It's not perfect but it's been a far smoother and more enjoyable experience. And that's nothing to say about all the Amazon ads and crap on Alexa.
Agreed with this. We have an echo show that I literally bought to be a standalone digital clock in the living room. I have disabled every type of suggestion/function/program/notification and Amazon without fail, will create a few more every couple weeks that I again, need to go in and turn off. Not to mention, the one single time I tried to use it as a basic alarm clock, it disregarded my 6 am alarm and decided I should wake up at 7:13 am instead. Awesome AI.

Meanwhile, we use the Google hub in the bedroom as an alarm clock and smart device and it's flawless. The Wi-Fi can get dropped, the alarm still works. The power/device can reset and the alarm still works. Cast TV from a phone to device flawlessly. Monitor other devices/cameras in other rooms as well as the network without fail.

Alexa is such a flop by comparison, it's hilarious.

Would this be worth getting over the Lenovo smart clock 2 that is also on sale albeit $20 more?
Absolutely! This does all that the clock does and much more.

Are there any good recipe organizer app that works on the hub? Apparently Paprika doesn't. I could see this being useful in the kitchen.

Can someone explain to me why this is better than the Amazon Echo's
You can ask real questions to Google assistant and expect good answers because it's powered by the Google search engine. Alexa rarely had the answers to what I wanted to know.

Which one is better for home automation? Echo or Nest Hub?

depends on what all devices you have at home. Both are good at home automation. For me its all google devices at home.

It answers more questions correctly for me compared to the Echos.

At this price this thing is a steal. One of the features I never see mentioned is that it basically functions like a Chromecast. This is functioning as a kitchen tv in my house. We stream via our phones using the Xfinity stream app. Been pondering the hub max to get the bigger screen.
The hub max is much nicer! Get it, you won't regret it.

Just bought one at $40. You have to make sure it's the one with the Wiz light bulb.

So I purchased on about two years ago and got a LED smart light bulb to go with it.

One day I said, set the brightness to 10% (I was talking about the light bulb) and the display dimmed to a point where I can barely read it. When I said raise the brightness to 90%, it now made the light bulb at 90% level.... this happened about 2 months ago. To this very day, I can not change the brightness level and it seems to be stuck at 10%. I am sure I can reset everything and reinstall everything... surely that would fix the problem but I am too busy and too lazy.

Oh well.... now I just say "GOOGLE WHAT TIME IS IT" instead of looking at the hub that I can not read most of the time.

Does anyone know if you can make phone calls using your contacts with this device?
