NordVPN's Christmas pricing is currently ~64% off their regular price of $223.83 for their standard plan for 2 years + 3 extra months for $80.73
I used the Capital One Shopping app during their Thanksgiving sale to to get 90% cashback, which brought my total down to $8.07. You do not need to be a CapOne customer and the shopping app is free to anyone. You do need to be logged in to see this offer, otherwise you may only see 45% on their website. The mobile app will show you either 90% or 100% cashback.
Some people were offered 100% through the same app so their total after cashback will be $0.00.
Slickdeals is also offering cashback through their browser extension, which has fluctuated between 70%-100% cashback.
Use whatever cashback program you're used to. Several of them are offering varying amounts of cashback for NordVPN.

You don't need to have a banking or credit card account with CapOne to use their CapOne Shopping app (which is separate from the normal CapOne app). It's free to anyone by registering. You launch the app, search for whatever merchant, then make your purchase from within the app window.
You can pay for your purchases using whatever forms of payment are available from the specific merchant you're shopping with. In this case it would be NordVPN, and they have quite a bit of payment options to choose from.
When your payment clears with the merchant (usually within 48 hrs) you'll get an email from CapOneShopping confirming your purchase and reward points.

Let me guess, you thought you could create a whole bunch of accounts, get cashback on all of them, and then sell the accounts for profit. Amirite? And since they flagged your multiple accounts for fraud, you're stuck with extra accounts that you can't sell because everyone else can legit get cashback on their account, so they won't buy yours.

Good catch. I didn't even think about that possibility. That makes a lot of sense too because a well known company like Capital One would not tarnish their reputation for few dollars here and there.

The primary business of all these various cashback programs offered by many different companies is to provide targeted marketing.
- The merchants pay an advertising fee to get new customers. That one discount can turn into exponential sales through customer referrals.
- The cashback program (whether it be CapOne, Amex, Paypal, Slickdeals, Top, Chase, etc) gets a referral payout and passes it onto the customer. Whether that amount is 1% or 100% on any specific purchase doesn't matter. They're not going to purposely stiff you over 1 transaction when you can potentially be their customer for a lifetime, meaning they can make a lot more money from all your future transactions in the long term, for little to no additional work on their part.
- The customer gets a discount on the product, and continue to get discounts on future transactions.
If you're legit then there shouldn't be anything to worry about. But if you think you can mine profits, you should consider that these companies (especially the banks) work closely with the credit industry, and together they can detect fraudulent activity.
There's multiple relationships at stake between the customer, the cashback program company, and the merchant. Mistakes can happen anywhere in the chain, but its in everyone's best interest to be legit.
The really good cashback deals are what is known as "loss leaders". Similar to the $5 rotisserie chickens that make people visit Costco to increase foot traffic. But don't think you can buy 100 of them and load them into your food truck for resale.

I could see people trying to mine profit from this and cap 1 shutting down accounts makes sense, but I could also see how new cap 1 shopping customers lured in by this awesome deal get screwed since they're mistaken for fraudulent accounts. 🤷 ♂️

Sucks that I can't chargeback capital one but I certainly won't be opening any more products there. What a disaster of a company.
Capital One Shopping refused to look until 30 days past. Nordvpn didn't care they got the money.
I asked nordvpn to cancel and refund. They sent me email saying FUTURE charge was cancelled. This is scammy. If you are not careful reading everything the 30days money back will not happen.
Contacted CSR for real cancel and refund. Let's see if it actually happen. I do have a transcript of the chat with nordvpn in case need to charge back.
