This was released in Sep 2021 so new iPad mini (7th) should come out in Sep 2023.
I wonder if this $100 discount is enough to bite.
It's unlikely they'd put M1 in 7th gen.
Would they put A17 as they did with gen6 or A16 to cut costs?
How you define cost in Apple company perspective? The material and production cost to make the current or next generation chip is the same. So under Apple company's perspective, the cost is relatively the same. The add ons cost that the end users see is the R&D cost that early adopters have to pay.
I have bought the mini on 2 separate occasions and I can't seem to find a use for it. I have an iPP 12.9 and an iPhone 14 pro max. I never was able to find myself picking up the mini for anything. Not even sure if they put a ProMotion display on it if that would make a difference for me. Maybe a miniLed screen with high HDR brightness?
I know, "cool story bro", but just felt the need to share.

everyone's use case is different. mini is perfect for us as it's not overly bulky to be used with those plastic mount/clamp for piano lesson. and of course it's more mobile versus the 10+ inch models again for education purpose if you're not stationary all the time

I was going to upgrade my kids 5th gen to this one, just so we're all in usb c, but they keep dropping $100 and I've been waiting for them to go down $150. I have a feeling these are going to be phased out, with so many price points on the regular ipad now. I also wanted consistency so we're all in the apple pencil 2... FWP, I know. I ended up getting them the ipad air 4th gen instead, found some brand new ones on offer up and ebay for less than $450 on the 256gb, so went that route... happy medium
This is my favorite device I own. It's my go-to "couch" device over my phone but I also use it heavily when traveling, coffee shops, etc. I pair mine with the pencil as well.
