Thumbs up at this price. Here's an in-depth review of this drive -

The drive is fine but I think you can do better at this price point. I'd prefer a TLC-based drive.

Last week I bought a HP EX900 Plus 2TB for $115 and today I just bought a Team MP34 2TB (which includes DRAM) for $128.

I think both are a superior option.

SSD Spreadsheet [google.com] is my best friend now.

Edit: I'll give the Tom's review credit. This seems to perform similarly to high-end drives in their testing. I still prefer TLC for durability reasons.

What durability do you not see with QLC?

QLC is known to be less reliable than TLC (supports less write cycles) because it stores more bits per cell than TLC. So it has to engage more write cycles per cell.

Practically it doesn't matter much for the standard consumer use. But if a TLC and a QLC drive are the same price, I'd prefer the TLC.

From a performance standpoint, having DRAM can help a lot...which is why I went with the Team MP34.

There are other factors too...controller type, memory brand. Check out the spreadsheet I linked in the previous post.

Two points, from my perspective, if you're somewhat budget conscious/constrained:
  1. If you want a drive for the OS alone plus some basic software, while keeping games and media elsewhere, I wouldn't prioritize size. You'll get by fine with as little as 256GB, which will give you plenty of wiggle room.
  2. If you want a drive for game and media storage, I would prioritize price per GB of storage. Here, both gen 3 and 4 will serve you fine.
    • In this case, the quality won't matter much, unless you do media processing, editing, and massive data transfers/writes all the time.

Yes i will be dong 1080-4k video editing and transfer. Over 100gb of media but not frequent editing or moving. pci4 and speed, quality, reliability is my priority. If i could go cheaper with DRAMless for primary that's 2T i would but i think i'll end up with 1T DRAMful TLC to save money.

Finally watching SSD's become normal prices is a wonder to see. Can't wait for 100 TB SSD drive one day.
