Tempted to move away from Eufy with the news about them actually uploading thumbnails to their cloud. Very deceptive.

Interesting. I had not heard about that so thanks! Any thoughts on other viable non-subscription options?

Skip Eufy, not a trustworthy company. They've been lying for years about their cameras not using the cloud and worse, you can open a remote camera's unencrypted stream in VLC if you figure out its URL. They've added a disclaimer about the former (despite many people purchasing their cameras solely for no cloud usage) and the latter, they've basically ignored.

Every camera can be accessed via an unencrypted link from the internet as well

They also promised support for Pan and Tilt cameras in HomeBase3 (the 'brain')... supposedly added in October. We're in December, and no news.

This is probably the 20th time they promised a feature 'soon', just so you buy it and it'll work right away, just around the corner... 2 years later the silently drop the feature altogether and ask you to buy the next generation hardware.

Today, around 1% of our total users access their account via our web portal. As per our design, prior to access any information, users have to log into their accounts. The URL links can only be obtained and shared by users themselves and will only be valid temporarily. It will be a personal activity if you obtain your own URL and share it with other people. Even so, we want to assure everyone that we have improved this point - even after users obtain the URL link by logging into their accounts, it cannot be played via a third party player or shared with others to play. Moreover, we've closed the port of browser developer mode, to avoid a similar process as Paul Moore demonstrated in his video.

This is for outdoor, what's the concern about security and such? Perhaps I'm missing out. So far I prefer Eufy than Wyze, Reolink, Arlo, Foscam and other non-brand cameras I have tried.

A small group of people are overreacting about this because of a youtuber. First they said it was a "major breach" and now steadily everyone is backpedaling and realizing no data was compromised.

So Eufy put up disclosures about push notifications for thumbnails and modified the way their web portal worked. For most of us that is enough. Especially for external monitoring. Most of us on slickdeals bought these to avoid the subscription fee and Eufy works great for that.

They did market it as staying locally with its users and it doesn't. People should buy whatever they want but Eufy should be clear how their equipment works.

Almost every security camera manufacturer does this. If you want notifications on your phone to have a thumbnail picture, it will likely have to follow the same path via the cloud so it can get sent to your phone. How else will the notification with picture thumbnail get to your phone?

Turn off the thumbnail feature, and this becomes a non issue.

Cyber security is a real concern and so is trusting the company you use for home security. WYZE had a similar security blow-up when they revealed they were no longer supporting WYZE V2 and users on the same network could access more info than should be accessible.

I had the first Eufy floodlight camera and the motion detection was poor - it only recognized people once they were fully in the screen/zone. Anyone with this camera seen improvement in motion detection?
