Product Name: | AUDEZE CRBN Open Back Over-Ear Electrostatic Headphones |
Product Description: | Breakthrough Electrostatic Technology Featuring the most advanced electrostatic technology in decades, Audeze proudly introduces the CRBN electrostatic headphone (pronounced "carbon"), which features a new Patent-pending polymer film with suspended carbon nanotubes to eliminate problems commonly found in previous electrostatic designs. Originally developed for MRI medical applications, we've adapted those innovations for the audiophile version of CRBN, which top audio professionals have called the best sounding electrostatic headphone to-date. Designed with Purpose Audeze originally developed this new technology working with Prof. Mark S. Cohen Ph.D., UCLA School of Medicine and his team, for use in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Typical ferrous metals could not be used, so we had to develop a new material, and that led us to patent a special thin film with suspended carbon nanotubes. This solves the problems associated with lamination and deposition on the film. Carbon Nanotube Technology The CRBN driver includes a revolutionary ultra-thin diaphragm with carbon nanotubes suspended inside the material. Because the charge is distributed throughout the film, this results in a uniform driving force that reduces distortion and improves clarity, resolution and transparency. Supreme Comfort CRBN offers supreme comfort with its lightweight construction. At 300 grams, the minimalist design features materials such as magnesium and carbon fiber, which shaves off every gram while maintaining strength. The earpads are extra plush and slightly oversized, for a great seal and pillow-soft, cranium-cradling comfort. Elegant Design CRBN is the ultimate in luxurious design, from the smooth curves of its uniquely etched grill, to the depth of its finely polished acetate rings. Featuring hand-stitched premium leather, every detail has been fine-tuned, all the way down to the feel of the machined aluminum 5-pin connector. 580 Volt Compatibility CRBN is compatible with "Stax Pro Bias" 580 Volt amplifiers such those from Woo Audio, |

I thought I did... for fun and to share with the community.
You can get passable audio with a set of cheap ear buds for $20. You want to hear a lot more clarity and bass pay $80 for some Sony MDR 7506s. want to keep climbing and gain another 5 percent clarity and sounds stage, pay $150 for some Audio Technics MX50s, or the classic Sennheiser HD 560s. a bit more say 3 percent jump to $350 and HiFI Man's HE 400i, Want to gain another 10 percent clarity, jump up to $500 and look at DanClark Audio Aeon RT. Want another few percent jump to $899 for the Aeon 2! And on and on. When your at $3000, etc your chasing the character of the headphone, open back, closed back, planar magnetic, electorstatic all factor in. You pay more the further you chase that last bit of clarity or openess or staging.
Just like a car that can go O-60 in 5 seconds can be had for 25k. to go to 3 seconds, that may cost you $100k. It's all the law of diminishing returns and the pursuit for that last few percent is worth the cost for others the $20 or $80 headphones is all they will ever need. Audio is a passion just like any other and logic and passion never match Lol.
but it allows well recorded music to sound to the best of its potential.

Headphones aren't exactly the same either... you're not wrong, but it's difficult to put a dollar price on something as subjective as enjoyment. I can imagine someone spending 50, 100, 200 dollars and being disappointed. And I can imagine someone else being completely satisfied.
