Great price but most of the reviews state it isnt consistant speeds and has frequent drops.

I wonder if this is portable as long as you have an oulet for power?
I had this from its inception, originally it wasn't too bad-as time went on the signal got worse and buffered like nuts, 3 TV's a pc and phone. I finally gave up after 7 months and terrible to non-existent customer service. The price is definitely tempting, btw, their newer modem was worst than their first, I had a pc fan underneath to cool it down, no difference.
If true it's a no brainer. I have the service. You can expect 100mbs-300mbs. Down time nonexistent.

Just got it setup, the download speed varies from 30mbps - 330mbps and uploads is 4 - 15mbps from my iphone 14 pro max. But the numbers are so much lower when I did the test with my Samsung Galaxy s20 Fe. I don't know too much about the 5g network, is that normal about the speed being so much difference?
There's a great degree of variability in speed based on where the gateway is placed. I tried at least 3-4 locations and on top of a bookcase about a foot away from a window did the trick to maintain 500 down.

How long did it take for it to show up on your account and what plan do you have?
The plan and discount showed up after the device shipped. I ordered on 12/8. Device shipped 12/10. I got a text that the unit shipped. When I went in my online acct it was showing up. The first sentence of my previous post says what plan I have.

That's a pretty terrible limitation especially for home internet.
I agree, since a lot of gaming consoles require it. But 90% really only care about streaming Netflix, YouTube, tiktok, and browsing the web which doesn't require it.

I did some more research for you since you're buying it based on my feedback so I'd feel bad if something didn't work right. My order from Aliexpress says both things; the model is listed as mu5001 but the description says mu5001U.

My actual model is MU5001. I just opened up the unit to look at the model number in the unit itself (had to remove the battery to look at the device details)

I reached out to the seller to clarify. This is what she said

MU5001 has lcd display and battery (this is what I have)
MU5001U has no lcd and no battery (marketed as Chinese model)

They both have Ethernet port.

She said she didn't sell MU5002 so doesn't have info on it. I could not find any specific difference myself. But I see lots of listings on AliExpress for both 5001 and 5002 so you should be able to compare them.

Sorry for providing the wrong info earlier, I was just looking at my online order vs what I physically had.

You should be good with the mu5001.

MU5001 Band spec:

Operating Frequency:
(5G): FDD 2100(n1)/700(n28) MHz
TDD 2500(n41)/3500(n78) MHz
(4G): LTE FDD: 2100(B1)/1800(B3)/900(B8)/700(B28) MHz
LTE TDD: 2500(B41)/3500(B42) MHz
(3G): WCDMA: 2100(B1)/700(B28) MHz
Thanks again for you diligence and concern!

My order was cancelled so I'm going to try and figure out what to order again.

It seems to be that the iOS app is buggy. I did the setup and completed, however, after i try to access the app again, it doesn't load. So I have to turn of the T-Mobile Wi-Fi and try to connect again and access the app.
Is anyone experiencing the same on iPhone app??

Is the download speed with this service going to be the same as what you get on your phone? I have a 5G phone, S22U and the coverage map says I'm right in the middle of an 5G Ultra area but I get terrible DL speeds of between 5 - 30 Mbps and upload speed of 1 - 4 Mbps on my phone. Makes no sense.

Just know you can't use this with Hulu live tv. They can override your IP, but the IP changes constantly, making Hulu live tv impossible to use. Also, signal has been spotty here, not good enough for streaming reliably, turning mine back in soon. If I had this price I might keep it for camping, but we're on the $50 plan

Try using the free ProtonVPN service and see if that fixes your issue with Hulu.

Been testing it out. Speeds are between 250-350mbps down and 20-40mbps up. Latency has been pretty steady, surprisingly low with not too much jitter. For reference my phone pulls around 500mbps down, so there's definitely some deprioritization going on.

I wouldn't believe a T-Mobile "For Life" anything.
I had the free data for life for a tablet and they simple cut off the service without warning.
Any idea why they cut you off? I'm actually typing this on my tab that is using the FDFL sim card. Every month it gets re-upped. Just curious if there's anything I should look out for with it.

It was back when they changed the billing system or something and he didn't get it turned back on. It affected lots of people and it was annoying, but I wouldn't use that as a basis for judgment

Was trying to find the link to letters with examples of what to put in there but couldn't find the old slickdeals thread. Will post it later if I find it.
