Great price but most of the reviews state it isnt consistant speeds and has frequent drops.

I wonder if this is portable as long as you have an oulet for power?

I had this from its inception, originally it wasn't too bad-as time went on the signal got worse and buffered like nuts, 3 TV's a pc and phone. I finally gave up after 7 months and terrible to non-existent customer service. The price is definitely tempting, btw, their newer modem was worst than their first, I had a pc fan underneath to cool it down, no difference.

If true it's a no brainer. I have the service. You can expect 100mbs-300mbs. Down time nonexistent.

It might help if you think of 5G like a satellite dish network. With satellite internet like Starlink, ViaSat, etc, you need clear skies and a dish pointed in the right direction.

5G is not exactly that, but its similar in that having a clear path to the towers affects your reception. Its not nearly as sensitive as satellite though.

This is why they tell you to put the 5G modem near a window. The direction of the modem matters too. The original designs of the modems included led's that would indicate the direction of the connection so you could position it properly. For whatever reason, Tmobile removed that feature (and many others) when they rebranded and carrier-locked them.

You can manually find the right direction by using speedtests. Run a speedtest to get baseline numbers, then rotate the modem 90 degrees and run another speedtest. Rinse and repeat until you narrow it down to 90 degrees. Then you can narrow it down further by adjusting in smaller increments to get the best signal. It should "work" in any position, but pointing in the right direction can have a huge impact. Ideally you want to point the modem in the right direction, on the correct side of your house, near a window.

Alternatively, you could use their 5G map to locate your local towers and try to point in their direction(s). The problem is there can be multiple in different directions, and its not guaranteed your modem will connect to the closest one.

With the modem near a window i can around 700Mbps. With the modem in my bedroom on the opposite side of the house, its only about 400-500Mbps, but thats 4-5x faster than the cable modem it replaced. Latency is usually around 25ms-35ms which is less than half of what the cable modem had.

Anyone know how they are gonna bill for internet line since it was activated at the middle of the billing cycle. Are they going to prorate the $25?

Just signed up and i have to wait 2 months for the bill to show $25, first 2 months probably $50/mth then get reimbursement..., hope Tmobile will make it right! They are messing up with billings a lot nowadays and the justification for price increase is always due to "TAX", so tax is increasing every month with Tmobile's?

They should or we have to contact them about it - but it really wastes our time for that!

They sent me an email that it's available in my area now. I thought maybe they'd installed a new 5g tower or something but '5g data' on my phone is 10mbps in my house (more rural outside major city). Am I to believe it will be any better with their modem or do they have a new solution or something? Seems like bad planning and asking for complaints from customers...
What phone do you have? Is it 5G UC capable or just 5G? Btw, some phones say 5G but in reality they are using 4G tech. Just asking because if your phone is not capable of taking advantage of 5G UC the gateway that T-mobile sends out might be able to and get better speeds.

When I go through the order, it shows $50/month - does anyone else have this and then get the promo after?

They can't legally bill you the full monthly amount if you started the service in the middle of a billing cycle. I wouldn't worry about it. They have systems in place to make it right.

No, you need them to add the promo code mentioned here then you will see the discount within a few days, don't wait. It's just their trick to say to wait for everything

I noticed on smart tube (ad free YouTube) there is A ton of buffering. Almost unwatchable, but in regular YouTube app it works fine. Anyone experience this or have a fix for it?

If you're on a fringe area, slap the external antenna on this thing.
Is there a low cost indoor antenna that will improve reception you can add that doesn't require running wires outside and mounting it on your house? Would rather just pay $60 a month for 1GB ATT fiber than do all that.

Keep your fiber. Honestly this is not a good replacement for fiber in my opinion. Unless you're really short on money or only using internet for Netflix, I'd keep the fiber.

You don't. But supposedly you can add it as a second line and then cancel after 90 days. You can also try to suspend the original home internet line during the 90 days to save a little bit.

I got it based on this deal. I like it. Works great. Gotta have a close enough tower though.
