Great price but most of the reviews state it isnt consistant speeds and has frequent drops.

I wonder if this is portable as long as you have an oulet for power?

I had this from its inception, originally it wasn't too bad-as time went on the signal got worse and buffered like nuts, 3 TV's a pc and phone. I finally gave up after 7 months and terrible to non-existent customer service. The price is definitely tempting, btw, their newer modem was worst than their first, I had a pc fan underneath to cool it down, no difference.

If true it's a no brainer. I have the service. You can expect 100mbs-300mbs. Down time nonexistent.

I've had it for 10 months and can stream 2 tvs, Zoom and multiple cameras that continually record. We have no problem with dropping. I'm in a rural area with no other access to quality internet. If we ever get Spectrum here, I'm not sure that we would even bother switching.

Some reviews are area or old hardware specific.
Same. I've had it for six months and have had no issues. I work via Zoom daily, and we stream one tv, and two laptops., PC, I pads, phones and Blink.

Is it this map

https://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/coverage-map

I don't see towers though. Is 5g extended and 4g lte the same thing? They are the same color on the map.
Use that Tmobile map to get an idea of the 5G areas, and then do a close up using cellmapper.net to find the towers.

The specific bands you want to look for are:
N71 is low (lower speed, higher penetration through objects)
N41 is mid (faster speed, less penetration)

The tmobile home internet app conmects to your 5G gateway and can tell you what band you're currently on

One thing I noticed about T-Mobile and all of its companies is when the power goes out I loose internet on my phones. It's like the towers don't have any kind of generators or anything.

Any idea if those on Magenta Max plan get both $20 discount plus the $25 discount to make it $5after autopay?

My history is showing $35 home internet line added and not the usual $55. My service promo is showing the discount code p22 too.

So if everything goes accordingly, I hope I get the home internet for $5.

Same for the recent add a line free, it is showing $35 under max for new line added and I have the service promo loaded in.

Crossing my finger.

Had a price hike with spectrum a few days ago and thought I'd give this a try. Worst case scenario I could return it. Been on it for the past week and has been solid. Had family stream a movie while I played some BF on the pc and then on the xbox. Noticed my ping was a little bit higher than spectrum but no issues while gaming or streaming. I don't game as much as I used to and only when I have time at night once or twice a week so take this with a grain of salt. Been on a zoom meetings as well and have been smooth. DL speeds around the 400s and UL around 20s. Based off my experience, I plan on keeping it and canceling spectrum.

If you are on the fence , just give it a try. 15 day trial run without incurring any fees.

15 days is really too little to evaluate reliability.

But you get $100 after four months. So it's max $25 for four months (assuming you need to keep it five months to actually get the $100). Very little downside.

Also, if you keep it for a month or more and cancel your old provider, you can go back to the old provider as a new customer if you want, and get a better rate.

It is but you can really tell early on it it's going to work for you or not.

I'm also debating whether to keep this.

I've already got basic xfinity internet at a. discounted $25/month until october next year.

I think i might get charged $30/month since i already used up my autopay discounts. so i figure i have about 3 month or so to test it out to get to break even point.

I think its mentioned in the first few pages that this deal doesn't stack and isn't even available for current home internet customers like me.

T-Mobile uses backup generators: https://www.t-mobile.com/news/com...ter-season

But maybe not on all cell towers yet. If you have access to see your local tower, you might be able to see if there is a generator at the base of the tower.

Also keep in mind even if T-Mobile has backup power, when there's mass power outage in your area and all major internet services go out, everyone and their grandma's smartphones switch from dead wifi to cellular. Your local T-Mobile (or any cellular carriers) would be so congested that it may appear as if there was no internet. You'll be lucky to get 1 text message sent out on your phone within 10 minutes. In fact, where I live with seasonal hurricanes, our emergency responders encourage everyone to send text instead of using voice or data on our phones during major power outages.

I don't believe most cellular carriers provision enough local bandwidth to accommodate all data traffic for everyone as if there were no other internet service providers in your area, unless your area truly has no other providers. So for folks getting this cheap plan as a backup to their current internet service provider in case of major outages, good luck!
