I know next to nothing about this product. Does anyone have any real life experience? The shower of accolades in the reviews at Amazon give me pause as to good to be true

IMHO not worth it. Get a Winix or Coway. The CADR on this unit is pretty low. It would work for a very small space. There's not substantial savings on filter cost or unit price. It's not terribly power efficient either. I'd stick with real filters for any of these since their effectiveness is based on the filter. Swapping out with a lesser quality or unknown quality filter means you're potentially reducing effectiveness if someone decides they want to go with a slightly thinner medium to save a little money. A bigger Winix or Coway will cost less relative to the amount of air it can clean. If you've got a small space, it just means that filter will last that much longer until saturated and needs to be replaced. If you've got a bigger space it will clean it faster, and maintain/restore it quicker. I just don't see the value in this thing other than Honeywell being a well known brand. Also bigger filters have more surface area, fans need to spin less to move the same amount of air. These compact units sacrifice a lot for being small.

Coned marketplace has it for $69.99 after instant rebate. Your electric company may also have similar deals.

The Honeywell is louder than my C545 and moves half the air. It's not just loudness either; the fans on my Honeywell air purifiers have an awful sound profile. The C545 and my GermGuardian have a gentle whooshing sound on all but the highest setting, which is in part due to the larger fans and lower RPM needed. The Honeywell's have a much choppier and more annoying sound on all but the lowest setting.

The Honeywell works just fine (prevented me from catching the flu from my roommate) but it's nothing fancy and there are much better performing units with better features for the price.

C545 = 14"D x 8"W x 21"H HPA100 = 13.54 x 8.9 x 13.94 in. The size of units is always something to take into consideration. Larger fans can move more air on lower settings which can result in lower dB depending on how you use them. This model is great for a laundry room or small bedroom. Otherwise, the HPA200 or HPA300 are what someone would want for a larger room or space. Note: My absolute favorite part of HPAx00 series is that all three sizes use the same HEPA filters, so I buy in bulk and save on cost filter replacement costs.

I just picked up a Winix C535 that comes with 2 years worth of filters for $130. No wifi, relatively cheaper oem filters. Bigger filter and more common (if you go with generic filters) than the C545 that had wifi scheduling stuff.

NJ PSE&G customers can get it for $54.99 after instant rebate. The original price is highly inflated that comes with $100 instant rebate.

I have Sharp air purifier, I suspect it's just rebranded winix because I am seeing 3 filters just like winix, one activated carbon or charcoal I think. I would like to try to get the filters first, where do you get filters for Winix? I found them on amazon for $50 which I thought was high since purifier was $150 or something like that.

This is what I have.

And filter just the carbon is $50

Seems very similar to Winix
And Hepa part is $60

Would this be a better option instead of trying to find filters?

I have it, no idea if it really works or not but it seems good. I got it on a super deal earlier this year from my power company, bought an Ecobee thermostat with no strings attached for like $100 or less maybe and got this for free with it. It's pretty quiet and powerful, has multiple power settings and timer settings and looks nice too.

I own one, along with its much bigger brother the 300 series. This is tiny and quiet. Works quite well but intended for a smaller room. I got it at goodwill for under $10 and bought a new filter and prefilter. This will last many years and the filters are easy to come by on ebay.
