That's a solid 4 years and then you can throw Linux on it.
more like three and a half ? Google has been pretty strict with AUE recently I have noticed.
Its a shame because this seems like a nice machine.

(anyone know the logic behind Google's AUE. Maybe because this processor is somewhat unique? I have seen cheaper chromebooks which have longer AUE).

Can't believe no one has mentioned "No HDMI" yet. It's really true in this case.

Your probably thinking the Screw write protect method. -- The new CR50 methods just need to disconnect the battery to disable Write protect.

01. Hold ESC-Refresh -- tap Power to boot to ChromeOS in Recovery Mode --
Press CTRL-D to enter Developer Mode and disable verification --- allow ChromeOS wipe ~5mins
02. Login to ChromeOS via google credz and establish WIFI connectivity with ur router. - shutdown Chromebook -- disconnect Power
03.Take apart bottom half and disconnect Battery - leave off and reconnect Power cable only to Chromebook-- boot into ChromeOS (This will disable "Write Protect" mode)
04.Launch Chrome Browser then press Ctrl-ALT-T to launch a Terminal
05. Type "Shell" to enter shell mode and paste the MrChromebox.tech script in there:

cd; curl -LO mrchromebox.tech/firmware-util.sh; sudo install -Dt /usr/local/bin -m 755 firmware-util.sh; sudo firmware-util.sh

06. select Option to install Full UEFI Firmware -- run through the prompts (because i can't remember them all) -- let it do its thing and reboot -- and you should get a coreboot "bunny" logo BIOS
07. Install Windows/Linux as any other x86 PC - through bootable ThumbDrive. - may need to find a Win11 TPM bypass method (with rufus)

08. shutdown and reinstall battery as before and your done.
Interesting, I tried this on a
Lenovo - Chromebook 3 11.6" HD Laptop - Celeron N4020 - 4GB Memory - 64GB eMMC - Onyx Black
Model: 82BA001FUS

I got stuck at step "03.Take apart bottom half and disconnect Battery - leave off and reconnect Power cable only to Chromebook". It wouldn't power with the provided power supply and the battery disconnected. Ended up returning it.

I'll give it a shot with this Asus.

Been looking at this for a few wks, should have bought the touch screen version for $179 on black Fri, it's 229$ now. Oh well, I will wait. This model is nice, at $129 is a steal but I want touch screen, hopefully it will drop back to $179 by Christmas.

Anyone know if this has an NVMe port internally? I don't see it in the specs. TIA

black friday was a little disappointing. m3, 8gbs, that's respectable compared to those celerons and a4s. I'm on a 2015 vintage core m right now, still takes care of business.

Hopefully the deals keep improving. We could all use a little relief from rising prices.

I have this laptop. At 129 it's fantastic.

Only things I dislike (but cannot complain about at the price) wifi chip is horrible. Reception is fine inside the house but as soon as I go into my backyard it refuses to connect. I can walk 3 houses down on my phone and other devices. Again can't complain for the price...

The trackpad feels a bit sensitive, could be a lot better, but not too big an issue.
How's the overall performance of the PC? Does this able to handle all normal school work?
Any heating problems or taking too much processor cycles when you open multiple applications ?

It's a lot easier to return or exchange if you buy it from the store.

I ordered one via ebay early on Dec. 3rd and it's still not tracking as having even been 'shipped' yet. It's too late to cancel the order and it looks like I'd have to pay for the return shipping if I Did want to return it.

EDIT: BB ebay finally shipped via OnTrac after 7 days. Definitely go to a store if possible.

I have the touchscreen version, and the performance is "snappy" if all you're doing is web-based like I am. It does handle school work but you'll have to use Google's own version of MS office, which luckily I only need their Word version, which is Google Docs.

The only time it seriously gets overheated is when I play Marvel Snap on it. U can feel the heat coming from the right side of the keyboard. I tried several games from the Playstore and have not found anything that will play normally as if using as a tablet. But I have an A8 for that.

So its not a gaming laptop, it couldnt even stay cool for something as tiny as Snap let alone 3D stuff. Its perfect for travel, web based, and media. The speakers are awesome, but do not use as much as it has a headphone jack. Was thinking about returning and getting this way cheaper version, but I need touch as I'm always doing my work on the couch. The only thing I might consider this nontouch version is how it opens, the touch is very hard to open, and I read that this nontouch does not have the same problem.

Hope that helps you out.

Its been at that price of 179 for more than a month recently. Safe to assume you should get it again sometime soon
