Some tips I learned on initial setup. The factory loaded ChromeOS has terrible wi-fi. Bring the Chromebook really close to the router. Update ChromeOS to latest version 108 and wifi works well afterwards. Also the backlight keyboard can be hard to see on default light settings. Use Atl-Brightness lo or hi button to decrease/increase the backlight to see the keyboard letters. This is a terrific value.

Your probably thinking the Screw write protect method. -- The new CR50 methods just need to disconnect the battery to disable Write protect.

01. Hold ESC-Refresh -- tap Power to boot to ChromeOS in Recovery Mode --
Press CTRL-D to enter Developer Mode and disable verification --- allow ChromeOS wipe ~5mins
02. Login to ChromeOS via google credz and establish WIFI connectivity with ur router. - shutdown Chromebook -- disconnect Power
03.Take apart bottom half and disconnect Battery - leave off and reconnect Power cable only to Chromebook-- boot into ChromeOS (This will disable "Write Protect" mode)
04.Launch Chrome Browser then press Ctrl-ALT-T to launch a Terminal
05. Type "Shell" to enter shell mode and paste the MrChromebox.tech script in there:

cd; curl -LO mrchromebox.tech/firmware-util.sh; sudo install -Dt /usr/local/bin -m 755 firmware-util.sh; sudo firmware-util.sh

06. select Option to install Full UEFI Firmware -- run through the prompts (because i can't remember them all) -- let it do its thing and reboot -- and you should get a coreboot "bunny" logo BIOS
07. Install Windows/Linux as any other x86 PC - through bootable ThumbDrive. - may need to find a Win11 TPM bypass method (with rufus)

08. shutdown and reinstall battery as before and your done.

I have this laptop. At 129 it's fantastic.

Only things I dislike (but cannot complain about at the price) wifi chip is horrible. Reception is fine inside the house but as soon as I go into my backyard it refuses to connect. I can walk 3 houses down on my phone and other devices. Again can't complain for the price...

The trackpad feels a bit sensitive, could be a lot better, but not too big an issue.

How does this compare to Acer 11.6" Convertible Touchscreen Chromebook Laptop with Chrome OS - AMD A-Series Processor - 4GB RAM - 32GB Flash Storage - the Acer is nice with the touchscreen but quite heavy

I have a Asus Flip C302 that I'm thinking of upgrading this to. The C302 still runs pretty good, although i'm seeing the battery life much shorter and about once a week it'll randomly freeze up and restart.
The C302 has served me well the past 5+ years

If ya don't need a touchscreen the C425 is a big upgrade in every way possible. It's lighter and only about 1 1/2 inches wider than your current Acer even though it has a 14" screen.
