01. Hold ESC-Refresh -- tap Power to boot to ChromeOS in Recovery Mode --
Press CTRL-D to enter Developer Mode and disable verification --- allow ChromeOS wipe ~5mins
02. Login to ChromeOS via google credz and establish WIFI connectivity with ur router. - shutdown Chromebook -- disconnect Power
03.Take apart bottom half and disconnect Battery - leave off and reconnect Power cable only to Chromebook-- boot into ChromeOS (This will disable "Write Protect" mode)
04.Launch Chrome Browser then press Ctrl-ALT-T to launch a Terminal
05. Type "Shell" to enter shell mode and paste the MrChromebox.tech script in there:
cd; curl -LO mrchromebox.tech/firmware-util.sh; sudo install -Dt /usr/local/bin -m 755 firmware-util.sh; sudo firmware-util.sh
06. select Option to install Full UEFI Firmware -- run through the prompts (because i can't remember them all) -- let it do its thing and reboot -- and you should get a coreboot "bunny" logo BIOS
07. Install Windows/Linux as any other x86 PC - through bootable ThumbDrive. - may need to find a Win11 TPM bypass method (with rufus)
08. shutdown and reinstall battery as before and your done.
Only things I dislike (but cannot complain about at the price) wifi chip is horrible. Reception is fine inside the house but as soon as I go into my backyard it refuses to connect. I can walk 3 houses down on my phone and other devices. Again can't complain for the price...
The trackpad feels a bit sensitive, could be a lot better, but not too big an issue.

The other one i tested with earlier was probably a bad card (i just randomly picked one up on my desk)
But SD Card shows up just fine under "My Computer" and "Disk Management "

Chrome OS has official support for linux but it runs on VMs instead of natively. VMs run slower, especially for stuff like games or emulators
But someone mentioned the nontouchscreen has lower nits so much worst? Or same?
Also someone said if you install linux on it, there is no sound or something? Can someone explain this? So after no more updates, you install linux or you install linux now instead, there is no sound?
Also wouldn't this be a great laptop to use to install linux compared to a cheap windows laptop that is i3 and 8gb and that would cost at least 250 dollars but it would have a horrible TN screen? So this looks really nice and everything and cost much less.

The depthbuilder iso is suppose to have a workaround for audio. But the solution they use has a warning that it might blow up your laptop's speakers! It's a decent laptop but it looks like having everything work on another OS requires tinkering. Hopefully by the 2026 end of life audio will work natively on linux

And so modifying the BIOS to coreboot or something else that supports Linux or Windows generally means that the OS is unaware of a specific sound card. And most likely will Not have support for it from the vendor -- as the vendor is expecting these specific sound cards to be used within Chromebooks - not laptops running Linux or Windows.
Which is why similar drivers can be used (from similar Non-Chromebook versions of those laptops - utilizing the same hardware> maybe) - but counterparts are generally hit or miss if it works. Sometimes a driver will install but still not "drive" the sound card properly to produce sound.
So while yes these devices can support Windows/Linux after ChromeOS support is end of life for a said model. You can keep patching them through windows (assuming you still have disk space on the eMMC) -- the caveat is that you rely on device support by the open community - like MrChromebox or Coolstar.
32GB is probably the lowest i would go -- 64GB leaves some space for Win11+Office+Chrome Browser
I do roaming profiles anyways and save Profile on a NAS (Desktop/MyDocuments/etc)

maybe you can get a keyboard cover? else its just to help her learn to be more gentle. Expensive tech things are even more fragile these days.
